My head was spinning, a massive headache forming. It felt as though I was on an infinite rollercoaster, so many loops and twists, never stopping. I wanted to get off the ride, but I was stuck, I couldn’t break out. The pounding in my head got worse. It was hammering intensely, like my brain was going to detonate into a million pieces any minute.

            Slap!

I twitched, feeling a tingle on my cheek. My mind became less foggy, and I started to regain consciousness. Stirring, I moved in my spot but froze. Pain coursed through my body, my bones screaming in agony.

            Slap!

Startled, I jerked and felt myself falling. I landed on my bum, a groan escaping my lips. “Ow,” I groaned, “my gluteus maximus.”

            “Your what?”

Cracking my eyes open, I was sprawled on the floor. There was a tingle on my opposing cheek, and this cheek hurt more than the other one. Suddenly, I was being pulled off the floor and settled down on the couch. I blinked my eyes again, Adam’s face directly in front of me.

“Adam…” I whispered. The previous events of what had happened before I passed out came rushing to my mind. The thieves. Fighting. Luke… “W-What? H-How did I get here?” I inquired, rubbing my hands over my cheeks. “D-Did you smack me, twice?” I asked, appalled.

Adam shook his head. “Well, I smacked you the first time, but the second time was him.” He pointed next to him. “As for your first question, he also brought you here.”

I moved my gaze over, my eyes connecting with Luke’s. He stared back at me in shock, pointing a finger at me. I cringed as I sensed what was coming next.

“So, you seriously are The Mysterious Hero?” Luke whispered in awe then shook his head. “I don’t get how?

“Yeah,” I answered, nodding my head but grimaced. My entire body was completely sore. It would take days for me to recover back to normal. I was then aware that, instead of my jeans, I was wearing shorts. I peered at my leg, noticing that the flesh was bloody. “Oh God…”

“Why didn’t you just say you were The Mysterious Hero?” Luke asked, still staring at me in awe.

Adam waved his hand in dismissal. “We’ll get to your questions later. But right now, Lila, how are you feeling?”

I gave Adam a dull look. “I feel like shit.”

“I know,” Adam said, sighing. “You know, you should really listen to me when I say that you should rest. Just look at your leg! It wouldn’t be like this if you weren’t running around.”

I glowered at Adam but I knew he was right. If I hadn’t been running too much, the wound in my leg wouldn’t have reopened. I should have listened to him when he told me I should stay home and rest. I was too stubborn. “Yeah,” I mumbled. “I know.”

“Here,” he said, giving me a wet cloth, “your head must be hurting.” I slightly smiled, patting the cloth to my forehead.

“Wait,” Luke interrupted, “your leg wouldn’t be like that if you hadn’t saved me from getting shot. It’s my fault.”

Adam raised a brow. “What does he mean it’s ‘his fault’?”

Opening my mouth to speak, Luke cut me off. “At the dance,” Luke began, “the thug was aiming to shoot me, but The Mysterious Hero, A.K.A Lila, pushed me out of the way.” He looked straight at me. “And she ended up getting shot in the leg.”
