The Miracle Child

‘Are we going to a planet? What about an asteroid? Or a parallel universe?’ Amelia Smith followed The Doctor round The TARDIS console as he switched buttons and pulled levers, ‘Amelia I’ve already told you, it’s a surprise’ he said as he continued to circle the console. ‘I am going to like where we’re going aren’t I dad? not like the planet of Kuris, I didn’t like that place’ Amelia said as she sat on the floor, The Doctor stopped fiddling with the controls and knelt down beside his daughter; ‘of course you’re going to like it, it’s my best surprise yet and why I didn’t think of this before is beyond me’ he kissed her on the forehead and before he could stand up, The TARDIS suddenly spun out of control, sparks emitted from her console; Amelia screamed as The Doctor tried to control The TARDIS when suddenly she stopped ‘Amelia you alright?’ The Doctor rushed over to her to check for any damage ‘yeah I’m ok, what happened’ she said while standing up, The Doctor examined the console ‘she just had a bit of a tantrum, all better now aren’t you dear’ he said as he patted her console’ Amelia looked at the scanner which seemed to not make up its mind ‘have we landed?’ she asked, ‘I think so, hold on’ he ran towards the TARDIS doors, he pressed his ear against the door and listened carefully, he could voices and what sounded like the scrapping of chairs, he yanked the door open ‘ah, I thought as much’ The Doctor stepped at of The TARDIS in to a giant hall with a sea of people wearing little black caps staring at him.

Amelia stood against the console staring at the door; she wondered what her father was doing, she wasn’t sure whether she should follow him or stay in The TARDIS until he came back, ‘what do you think, do I follow him?’ The TARDIS made a low humming noise in response; ‘ok I’ll follow him, someone’s got to keep him out of trouble’ Amelia smiled and walked towards the door. ‘Dad where are w-‘Amelia stepped out of The TARDIS and stared in disbelief, everything from the floating candles to the four long wooden tables laden with food was just as it was described in the books, she was standing in the great hall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, she soon felt out of place wearing her denim dungarees and leather boots. ‘Amelia’ The Doctor walked up to her after to speaking to Professor Dumbledore with the biggest smile ‘what do you think?’ he whispered to her but Amelia was speechless, she was actually at Hogwarts, millions have dreamt of this happening yet she could not believe it.

Professor Albus Dumbledore walked up to The Doctor and in a hushed tone said ‘I think I better explain to the pupils and the staff what you are doing here Doctor and then maybe you could move your magnificent box to my office, we’ll talk there’ he gave a little wink to Amelia and walked to the podium, many whispers were spreading throughout the hall, the staff at the top table were just as curious by Hogwarts special guests. Dumbledore cleared his throat and the whispers soon stopped, ‘I gather you are all wondering just who our special guests are, may I introduce The Doctor and his daughter Amelia who shall be staying here at Hogwarts during this time, The Doctor has kindly agreed to help with this year’s special event, The Triwizard Tournament’ there was murmur and whispers once again spread across the hall, ‘we’re here for the tournament?’ Amelia whispered excitedly as Dumbledore continued with the announcements but The Doctor looked worry ‘Dumbledore sent me a message, something is not quite right, someone is missing from this hall’ Amelia scanned the room but there was so many faces she couldn’t work out who it could be ‘who’s missing?’ she asked;
