I’m soooo gonna get fired!
Elevator. Up up up!
People around me talking and babbling about their awesome lives.
Me sweating under my pristine red shirt and white pencil skirt.
My feet in gorgeous amazing black heels were twitching.
My pearl leather bag was tight to my midriff, and my white blazer was getting me too hot.
The paper bag in my hands trembled and I was praying Mr. von Hauser’s breakfast wouldn’t end up on the marbled floor.
As soon as the elevator’s doors open on the fortieth floor, I quickened my steps. With my electronic key falling over my chest, I opened my boss’s office. The blinds were closed shut, everything virginal and methodically in its place. I opened the blinds and let the spring morning sun come inside the white office. I replaced the white flowers in the big vase by the small coffee table, set the breakfast perfectly aligned, cleaned a little bit of dust from his chair and computer, and checked my watch.
“Three, two, one...”
I looked towards the door, while setting straight next to his desk. He didn’t show. I frowned. It was three past eight now. Odd...
“Oh, crap! He died!”
As I was starting to panic, Mr. von Hauser got inside his office, talking on his phone, a deep frown set in his forehead, his lips a thin line of displeasure. I swallowed hard. He dropped his suitcase over his desk and took his seat, not even acknowledging me.
“I’ll see to it, Greg. Huh... I think so, yes. Let me just check with my secretary. Miss McAllister? What are my plans for lunch today?”
My eyes widened and my brows shot up. Wasn’t I fired...?
“I’m waiting” He grunted, eyes narrowing.
“Oh, yes...” I cleared my throat and checked his schedule “You’re supposed to meet Mr. Rush for lunch, today, around noon at the Boathouse.”
“Cancel that, and schedule a meeting at Creativity at half past noon. Thanks, Greg. I’ll meet you later.”
And he disconnected. He checked his breakfast and newspapers, and pleased with it he dug in. He actually ate more effusively that day, like he was almost... happy. Mr. von Hauser’s happy face is a relaxed jaw and eyebrows. It was kinda scary...
“Isn’t there something you need to do?”
I jolted but nodded nervously. With that, I left his office and took my seat by my desk. As I turned on my computer, Kenny immediately “screamed” on the intranet chat room.
“MAJOR WOW! Melinda & Nina got it on about 5 min ago on wardrobe! Cece texted m in panic! Bitches gonna kill each other!”
“Holy cow! Tell m wigs were flying arnd! Gi’me d dirty dtails!”
“No can do, for now. Cece is busy avoiding WW3, Farha is gonna hit d wall when she hears about this...”
Farha Nesire was the wardrobe leader. Everyone sucked her up to get their hands on the goodies the major stylists and brands sent for Pandora to feature their articles.
“Lunch?”
“No way I’m leaving the cafeteria today!” I typed with a glint in my stomach, anxiousness building up on my belly just thinking about the tension in the room when all the employees got together to gossip about the most recent drama.
“Ur turn to share drama.”
“The Antichrist canceled a lunch with Rush.”
“Uh! Interesting... more.”
“I – moi! – gotta call poor Mr. Rush to tell him myself.”
“Poor u...”
“I know, right...? My life sucks... Gotta talk to a major hot movie star... – sighs.”
“Bitch.”
“Jealous.”
I giggled and logged off. Oh, well... Time to call Mr. Hotshot. Mr. Gorgeous. Hollywood himself! I couldn’t help to smile like a teen girl as I dialed the number I got into my work contacts. As it beeped, I Googled his pictures. A very hot picture of him in underwear was the one I picked to stare at as I talked to him.
“Piet here.”
“Mr. Rush? Hello, this is Georgia McAllister, Mr. von Hauser’s secretary?”
“Wonder Woman! Well, good morning Miss McAllister. What do I owe the pleasure of this call?”
I kicked myself not to giggle like a groupie and turned into my best professional voice.
“Mr. von Hauser is very sorry but he can’t meet you today for lunch. He has a very important meeting with a prospector sponsor, and he asked if it is possible to reschedule your lunch.”
