OK this is my first book so it might not be great.

I stared at my mother as she stumbled around laughing, I knew it. I knew she stopped taking her pills even though she told me she was, she promised she would. I guess promises meant nothing any more. All the times she promised to protect me, she didn't. She was too busy sobbing in the closet to come help her own daughter from the fists of her own husband.
.
I picked Tyler - my eight-month-old brother - up and walked to the kitchen to feed him. I took out a bottle. I feed him him while watching my mother dancing around. "Stop it! why won't you take your pills!" I screamed at her once I put Tyler down. She stops and looks at me.
"Because then your daddy will stop hurting me and he'll hurt you instead." She shrugged like it was the most simplest thing in the world. I was ready to slap her, but before I could the door sprang open.
.
.
"Aura!" he screamed my name. I flinched and walked towards him. He slapped me across the face and I fell to the ground. "Your going to school tomorrow, get ready for it. now where's my food?"
"On the kitchen table," I answered quietly, he stepped on top of my hand, it didn't hurt any more, every time he hit me I went numb, sometimes I felt something else but it wasn't pain. I grabbed my baby brother I turned to my mother who stared at me without any emotion.
.
"You got what you deserved." She hissed before spinning around again.
"Maybe you should go back to the hospital, I heard you had a reputation there," I replied. Her eyes snapped towards me and she came running at me with a vase in her hand. I kicked her in the knee and she dropped the vase and yelped, I then pushed her before running upstairs.
.
Great, tomorrow I start school . . . note sarcasm.

The next morning I rang Zoey, my babysitter for Tyler before getting ready, I wore a black sleeved top and jeans. When Zoey arrived I thanked her before grabbing my new school bag and walking to Blue Moon High.
I walked up the uneven rock steps before opening the school doors, I walked in. Most people turned there heads, maybe because I was a bit weird looking. I had black hair that was naturally beautifully curled and tan skin, my eyes were the colour of the moon it was a weird sliver and black.
.
I ignored the stares as I walked to the office. The lady asked my name without sparing me a glance, "Aura Miles," she handed me my schedule before I walked away to my first class.
.
.
.
"Hi!" someone shouted behind me, I turned to see a girl. she had honey coloured hair and dancing blue eyes. "I’m Carrie,"
.
"I'm Aura," I replied calmly. Automatically I pulled down my sleeves hoping no one would see the dark scars that hid there. The scars that I made. Nobody needed to know.
"Is that really how your hair is, it's amazing!" she linked her arm threw mine. I stared at her, a bit confused, I didn't want any friends, I didn't really want anyone. I was more of a loner.
.
.
I was also tired of getting hurt, though I barley felt anything any more. I unlinked my arm from hers and she stared at me in shock. "No offence, you might be a nice girl and everything but I don't want to make friends with anyone." I don't need anyone, is what I wanted to say, but I didn't want to upset her any more than she already was. "Sorry." I told her, I meant it, but it didn't really sound like it. I knew I sounded like an automatic robot.
.
I just didn't know how to care about anyone except for Tyler.
.
I went to class, not sparing a glance back at Carrie. It was better this way.
