Chapter Fifteen
Cale Morrison
Yesterday, I would have never thought I would have gotten the chance to punch Brody Price in the face again. And yesterday, I would of never thought I would run into him on my vacation.
But, here I am, in that exact situation.
My hand was throbbing in pain after the punch I just threw, but I didn’t care. All I can think about is how bad I want to do it again.
I watched as Brody stumbled backwards into the railing. With one hand over his right eye, he stared at me in shock. His surprise quickly turned to anger, though, as his expression shifted into a scowl.
“You little shit!” Brody growled as he took a step closer to me.
“Brody, get out of here!” Carmen shouts, tears streaming down her face. She then gets in front of Brody, and tries to pushes him back. But when she does, it only pisses Brody off. So, he pushes her.
The push was hard enough to knock her down, slamming her head against the ground.
Anger boils inside me. “You don’t touch my sister,” I say through clenched teeth. And just as I’m about to go in for my second punch, I see someone come out of the corner of my eye, and tackle him to the ground.
It takes me a minute to realize who it was that had Brody pinned to the ground, but when I do, it shocks me almost as much as it did seeing Brody here. It was Jude.
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” Jude yells, struggling to hold down Brody.
Brody tries one last attempt to throw Jude off of him, but fails. “Get the hell off me! This is none of your damn business!”
“Like hell it’s none of my business!” Jude scoffs. “It becomes my business when some random asshole tries to punch one of my friends and knocks his sister down!”
I’m thrown off my by this. Friends? Since when? He didn’t seem like he wanted to be my friend a few days ago.
“In case you didn’t notice, your friend punched me first,” Brody spits out.
“You know what? I really don’t give a shit. Because if Cale punched you, I’m sure he had pretty good reason.”
I have no idea what’s going on. Why is Jude defending me?
Before I can think any deeper into this, I hear someone running up to me. “Oh, my God. Are you alright, Cale?” Kendal asks, putting a hand on my arm.
Before replying, I look around for my sister. I find her sitting on the ground with her back against the railing next to Keana, who had her arm around her.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I reply quickly, and hurry towards Carmen.
When I reach her, I kneel down in front of her. “You okay, Car?”
“Yeah,” she says, her voice cracking. “Just a little shaken up.”
With that, she begins bawling into Keana’s shirt. Keana just sits there quietly, stroking her hair, trying to calm her down.
“Is everything okay here?” asks the man that works at the surf shop on the pier. “Do I need to call the police?”
I turn around and shake my head. “No, it’s fine now. It’s over.”
The worker studies me for a moment and says, “It better be. The girl hurt?”
Before I could answer, Carmen says, “I’m fine. Ju—just a bump on the head.”
Without another word, he nods, and walks off. When he’s out of sight, I turn to Carmen and Keana. “Can you walk Carmen home and make sure she gets there alright?” I ask Keana.
