"Let's go, Niall. The plane's leaving!"

I knew I had to let him go. I didn't want him to go to England. He's my best friend. I hugged him one last time. As I pulled away, I looked up into his blue eyes. I smiled weakly. He smiled back at me, and I bit my lip, to keep myself from crying.

"Promise you'll call me every week."

"I promise, Laura, don't worry."

"You won't forget me, will you?"

"Of course not! How would I, honestly?" He laughed, and I punched him lightly.

"Hey, you never know," I said, a blush coming to my cheeks. "Good luck, by the way. I'm five-hundred percent sure you'll get to the finals, maybe even win."

"Don't put your hopes up that high, Laura. I'm really not that good," he answered. I rolled my eyes at him. "Look, I really have to go. I'll call you when I get there."

I sighed. "Fine. Have a nice flight, and don't forget to fasten your seatbelt," I said, grinning, as he finally started walking over to where he'd go into the plane.

I waved goodbye, then ran back to the car, with my dad trying to keep up with me. Cassie and Linda walked calmly behind him, chatting about the boys in the football team. I finally let a few tears slip, since no one was looking at me.

*end flashback*

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I searched for it in the darkness, knocking down some books and my clock. Finally, I felt the case of my old phone under my hand. I brought it to my sight as fast as I could, then checked the number: unknown caller. I picked up anyway. It could be an emergency.

"Hmm?" I grumbled, turning my light on and picking up the clock. It was six AM, for heaven's sake!

"He-" I cut the person off.

"It's freaking six in the morning," I said, a bit more concious. "You woke me up! And anyway, who are you?" I would've hung up, but I really was curious at who had called. Probably something important, to call so early in the morning.

"I'm s-sorry, Laura... I, uh, just wanted to.. er.." I almost laughed at the stutterer, and I would have, if I hadn't recognized the voice. Maybe I didn't recognize it. I was obviously still sleeping and this was just a dream.

It couldn't be. He hadn't called in the past year or so, since he had traveled to that stupid place to become famous. It was a dream. He now had new best friends, every girl falling in love with him. It was a dream. Niall wasn't on the phone, since he would obviously be enjoying his precious life with his perfect bandmates. It was a dream.

But it wasn't a dream. At first, I just stared wide eyed at the ceiling, not knowing what to say. When I didn't feel utterly confused anymore, I sat up and smiled at myself in the mirror. I was happy for the phone call. He hadn't forgotten me, after all. Calling at six in the morning wasn't very nice, though.

"Uh, hi Niall. Sorry for that. I... didn't know it was you," I replied, blushing. Thank God he wasn't here to see it. I heard his laugh at the other side, which made me smile wider. Soon it faded away. "I thought you were having a better time without me. You know, since you haven't called in a while?" The laughing stopped abruptly, obviously because of what I had said.

"What? Laura, I meant to call. I'm sorry-" I then heard other guys' voices in the background, laughing, and then silence. Yeah, he had forgotten about me. Those guys - what were they called? Whatever - were much funner than me. He liked them better. Niall Horan had replaced me.

I yawned as I walked to school the next morning. I hadn't gotten enough sleep last night because of Niall's phone call. I couldn't sleep for the next two hours, and after that any noise woke me up. I was pretty tired now.

My ginger hair was in a braid. It was always like that: it kept it away from my eyes and it looked nice. I was wearing a loose white shirt and ripped shorts. I hated really short shorts, but long ones looked weird. Mine were kind of in between. I didn't wear any makeup. I found it fake and stupid. My eyelashes were long enough without mascara. My eyes were what I liked best about myself. They were light brown and sparkled. My brother said that once, and it was pretty much the only compliment he's ever given me, so I was proud.

No, I don't find myself pretty, but I never thought of myself as ugly. I was okay. And it's okay to look okay, at least for me.

I waited for Cassie outside her house, like always. We walked together to school every day, but it took her a long time to get dressed in the morning, so I had to wait for her every time. I rang the doorbell once and waited. I waited for a good five minutes, and rang it again. No one opened the door or answered.
