Vampires Anonymous

     It's Sunday, we're at IHOP, for the third time this weekend. Zane is still in the trunk of Kali's '07 white Saturn Aura. Too many light bulbs for him to handle. I watch Kali dig into her buttermilk pancakes that have been drowned in blueberry syrup.

     "Kali, you um want to wipe your face off? Your face is covered in syrup." I tell her with a sigh. She stops and goes still, glaring at me.

     "At least syrup is better than coming home at 5 in the morning, close to sunrise, covered in blood." She raises an eyebrow challenging me.

     "That was one time! Don't be jealous just because I can have blood and you can't." She growls at me and goes back to devouring her pancakes.

     "Give up, it's not worth fighting her. Don't forget Zane's omelet, I will meet you in the car." Damion says as he slides out of our booth. I sigh and watch the big African American leave me alone with Kali the pancake terror, and the bill.

     "Jesus Kali, did you order enough food? You could feed the country of Haiti with all this food."

     "I didn't get that much food, plus one of the Colorado omelets is Zane's." She says as she wipes her mouth and skips out of the IHOP. So feminine, she isn't. I scan the ticket seeing the damage Kali has done now, she is going to kill my pocket book one day. I get out to the car and see Kali in the drivers seat and Damion has shotgun. I grumble to myself and climb into the back carrying Zane's stupid omelet.

     "How bad was the check?" Damion says looking at me in the rear-view mirror as Kali pulls out of the IHOP parking lot.

     "Well considering no one helped out, and I had to leave a fifteen dollar tip, the grand total was ninety-three dollars and ninety-three cents."

     "I'll pay for the little monster next time." Damion says in his deep voice, trying to be reassuring.

     "Yeah, you said that last time." I say as I watch the lights from the city pass by us.

     "Cheer up Luka, the professor said we will be getting a new student tonight." Zane shouts from the trunk. I roll my eyes and lean back. Waiting for us to get to our home slash prison.

     "Wanna bet I get the newbie?"

     "There's no betting Luka, you're the only one with a free bed until the rest of the house gets finished." Kali says with sympathy. She got the last newbie and he's a hypochondriac. Yeah, Julian is an interesting dude, he comes up with the weirdest diseases he thinks he has. Last week he was sure he had prostate cancer. We pull up to the large black-red brick building, it's an abandoned hotel, but it's now home to us misfits.

     "Do you think the twins are home?" Damion asks as we get out of the car.

     "They might be, if they are, I am locking myself in my room till the newbie gets here."

     "You're already going to do that Luka, what's the difference if Tasha and Grimmel are home?" Zane says as Kali opens the trunk, allowing him to get out. Kali goes and stand by him and hugs him. Them dating is cute especially since Kali is a good four inches taller than Zane. She may be Asian, and bleach blond, but she has a higher GPA than us, and is one of the tallest out of all the vampires living here at five foot ten, she holds her own. In a psycho way, but whatever works I guess.

     "Natasha needs to control Grimmel, last time he was here I lost all my hair, I am just now getting it back with some of Remi's potions."

     "Does Remi even know you have her potions?" Kali asks raising one of her blond eyebrows.

     "Yes and No. She suspects but she hasn't said anything." I say as I hand Zane his omelet.

     "Well if you die in the middle of the night with no stake in your heart, we will know why." He says laughing. I knock on the door, and wait for someone to open the door, trying hard not to kill the big man behind me in the process.

     "We really need keys, or something so we don't have to wait all night for someone to open the damn door." I mutter under my breath, and then the Doc opens the door. His hair was once raven black like Zane's, but the man was getting old and his hair was now turning a silver white. He created this freaky establishment how ever long ago it was when he was in his twenties. But that could have been a century or so ago for all we know.
