Growing Up is Rough
Seventeen year old Fly Wilder is finding it increasingly difficult to fill his late father’s boots. Fly has to juggle a grieving mother, an irresponsible older brother, a younger brother who’s completely off the rails, and unwanted feelings towards his best mate Vinnie, all while trying to pay the bills and put food on the table. Council estates, knife crime, parkour and juvie threats… It’s all part of life when you’re Growing Up Rough.

Ash Jamieson was (reasonably) happy as he was. Estranged parents? Nothing new. No mates? Meh, he could handle that. Average grades? So what? Sharing a bed with a shy, awkward yet strangely enticing teenage boy who changes the very way Ash views life itself? Now that might be a problem...
"Sam and I were stereotypical ‘emos’. No, we weren’t depressed, and no, we didn’t cut. We just had the stereotypical appearance: shaggy dark hair with wild colours running through it, a liking for skinny jeans, rock music, and –in my case – eyeliner. And, stereotypically, we were the subjects of much abuse for it." Sam and Luke are best friends... and social rejects. Often mistaken for a gay couple, 'fairy' and 'fruitcake' are regularly called after them. But Luke really is a closet gay, and when he and Sam end up in a sticky situation involving the new guy and the school bully they're forced to pretend to be a couple. Luke knows he wants more... Luke knows he wants to stop pretending.
