"Mom, dad?" my parents both looked at me at the same time. We were all gathered up at the kitchen table eating breakfast.
"What is it, sweetie?" mom asks as she lifts a glass of orange juice to her mouth.
I could feel my heart beat racing and as if it's about to jump out of my chest anytime soon. This was all Owen's fault. He is the reason why I'm so nervous all the time. If he hadn't transferred to my school in the first place I wouldn't be like this at all.
Owen Matthews.
He surely is the prince of the damned.
"Baby girl, what is it?" dad asks as well, wiping his mouth with a table napkin. I just realized I had zoned out again. See what Owen does to me? What is up with that boy? I swear I'm about to lose it.
"I, uh...." I stutter. "I just want to inform you that, my teacher Ms. Guerrero, wants me to tutor one of my classmates for Chemistry."
I swallowed. Here's to hoping they would say yes. Dad's alright. But mom? I highly doubt it. I crossed my fingers under the table, pressing my lips together as tight as possible. Please say yes, please say yes. I chanted rhythmically in my head.
"Sure, I think that's wonderful, baby girl." dad smiles across the table and reaches for a few strips of bacon. Mom eyes me curiously as she chews away.
"So, who are you tutoring?" Shit. I was afraid she would ask that.
I shrugged. "It's this new guy from school."
"His name." Mom says firmly without even looking at me. She probably has an idea on who it is.
"He's new, mom—you don't know him."
Before mom could say another word, Ivan butts in. And I swear I wanted to drop the bowl of scrambled eggs on his head. I hate it when he interferes with our conversation.
"It's Owen Matthews."
Mom and dad looked at each other. It was like they were communicating with telepathic messages. Awkward silence, I wonder what's the verdict of Judge Judy?
"Sweetie, I don't think that's a great idea," she says softly, her hand reaches over to squeeze my hand. "Maybe you should talk to Ms. Guerrero about it? Tell her you have other things to do."
My jaw clenched. My eyes switched over to Ivan, but his face was already beet red with shame.
"I don't understand, mom. What's wrong if I tutor Owen?"
"He's a delinquent, Klara." Dad finally says. There was conviction in his voice. "I don't want you near him."
"He's pure trouble." Mom adds, her eyes shifted over to dad.
My mouth fell open. I needed to do something. They were being so irrational about this boy who they barely even know. I need to do some damage control. ASAP.
"Mom, dad, I think you guys are being a little bit unfair here," I swallowed. "Owen is failing his Chemistry class and I was appointed to help him out just until his grades go up. What if I was the one failing Chemistry?" I hear Ivan stifling a laugh. I turn to glare at him. He just shook his head. He clearly knows what I'm doing.
"How would you guys feel if I was the one failing at chemistry?" I repeated. Mom and dad looked at each other again. Was it working at all? Did I get through them?
Dad cleared his throat. "Well, I guess that would be alright."
"Mom?"
She stood up from the table and brought her plate to the kitchen sink.
"Well, I guess I have no problem with that, as long as you follow some ground rules, young lady."
My heart leaps with excitement. I don't know why, but at that moment I just wanted to call Owen right away to tell him the great news. Except of course I don't have his cell phone number. But that's okay; I'll see him at school anyway.
"Ah, sure. What are the rules?"
Mom leans against the kitchen sink with her arms crossed. She was silent for a moment before she started to speak again.
"I don't want you tutoring him anywhere else but here."
"That's fine. I'll tell him to come over tonight so he can meet you guys."
Mom didn't look happy at all. I know what she's thinking but I have my own life and she needs to respect that.

"Hey there," said the deep voice behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see Owen standing beside me with a tray in his hands. I grabbed a carton of chocolate milk and some dinner rolls.
"Hey yourself," I shot back with a smile. My heart starts to flutter at the sight of him. He is just so freakin' handsome, I wanted to link my arms around his neck at that very moment and kiss him like there's no tomorrow. His scent, whatever aftershave he's wearing just drives me up the wall. Bonnie nudges me and smiles sweetly at Owen.
"Hey, Owen." He just nods back in response.
It was kinda awkward. He doesn't seem to be the type of person who socializes that much.
"So, did you ask your parents?" he whispers into my ear. It sends a ripple of excitement throughout my body. I grabbed an Apple and smiled back up at him.
"Yeah, they said it was okay."
His face lights up, eliciting a small smile. "Cool, so my house after school then?"
I shook my head. "Um, I can't. Sorry, but you have to come by our house if you want me to tutor you."
He nodded. "Shoot, I'll see you at six then."
After gathering everything on our tray, Bonnie and I walk over to a table. I look over my shoulder and see Owen walking in a different direction.
"Hey, Matthews!" I yelled. He turns around. "Why don't you come and sit with us?"
He grins and brushes his tongue over his bottom lip. I think my panty just dropped on how incredibly hot he was. I could feel my knees weaken every time he looks at me.
Then my heart drops as a blonde bimbo with big boobs suddenly hooks her other arm around Owen. I immediately recognize the girl from my Chemistry class.
