It was a dark night, The moon, only a sliver glowing. The street lights lit up Gotham, as I looked on from the roof of my home. Everybody's hero, Batman, has taken the fall for what Harvey Dent did. And now no one can find him. I believed in him, just like anybody else did. Just like a small child in school did. I had to find him. I had to find Batman.

By the next day I searched for clues and begged my friend John Blake to help. "Please John." I pleaded. "I don't know if I can help you with it, I mean, I am pretty busy with other things." He said. He didn't believe that The Batman was the man who caused his father's death a long time ago. We were both raised as orphans. My parents died in a car accident a long time ago. Been a foster child since, just like him. "I'm investigating into it." I said to him. "Good luck." He said. I left his office and found Jim Gordon. "Where is the bat signal?" I asked him. "On the roof." He answered. I left and jogged up the stairs to the roof then found the machine to light up the sky with his signal but it was broken. I remember seeing it sometimes lit up. I felt the metal and looked around. "Oh Batman, where are you?" I asked out loud. I left the police station and went downtown. I was wandering with my hands in my pockets waiting for an answer. I accidentally shoulder checked an old man with short snow white hair and carrying a package in his arm and a bag. Both fell and I apologized immediately and started helping him pick them up as he was scrambling to gather everything. I found a piece of metal from the bag that was on the ground. I recognized the type. I looked at him and he looked at me. "Can I please have that back miss?" He asked and slowly held his hand out towards me. I placed it in his hand then held his hand. I leaned in close to him and whispered. "You know Batman." I said. He took his hand back and put it in the bag. He left the piece of metal in it and stood with his bag and package. "I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about." He said and began to leave in a hurry. I seen the package had Wayne Enterprises on it. I started walking in the opposite direction and called John. "I have a lead!" I said. "Oh you do, in one day you have a lead. Let's hear it." He said. "I ran into an old man, not on purpose and he spilled his goods."

"Nice going Steph."

"Yeah whatever John, anyways, he had a piece of metal shrapnel. The same kind Batman uses for his batarangs."

"How do you know that?"

"I found one stuck in a wall and kept it."

"Cool."

"But the old man also had a package. It was being delivered from or to Wayne Enterprise. I'm heading to the building now to do more scouting."

"Stephanie, that is...excellent detective-like skills you've got but it's not such a great idea going into Wayne Enterprise. Authorized Personel can only go into certain areas."

"Right. Well, I guess I hit a dead end then."

"I guess you did."

"I'm going home. I'll talk to you later."

"Later."

I hung up and walked on, thinking of what I could do to figure this out. Then it dawned on me! Hit Wayne Manor. I waited until night and snuck in to the party. I made my way up and found a locked room. I was jimmy rigging it when I heard somebody coming. I hurried off and hid as a maid unlocked it with a key and went inside. I was waiting for her to go out and leave but she wasn't. I peeked at her through the door and saw she had put a necklace on. Then an old man was talking to her and approaching her. He claimed the pearl necklace was his mother's. I heard somebody coming and looked down the stairs to see Alfred. Bruce Wayne's personal butler coming up. I slinked into the shadows and hid. He walked up and in. "We've been robbed." The old man said. They began to have a conversation back and forth. I stepped out of the shadows and walked in after hearing the necklace had a tracking device on it. "Bruce Wayne?" I asked. He looked at me and slowly stood. "She was dusting for my prints." He said and walked towards me. He had longer hair and some facial hair. He looked old. And he walked with a cane. "Why do you walk like that?" I asked him. "Because my joints don't work like they used to." He answered and smiled. Alfred was watching us during our conversation. "Why are you in here, Ms...?" Bruce asked me. "I wanted to talk to you about an idea." I answered.

"What do you mean?"

"I've come up with a persona myself."

"Really? And what's this...persona of yours?"

"Batwoman."

"Batwoman?" He laughed. "Alfred, do you hear this? She finds her hero and then she tries to make a deal with him!"

"I'm trying to help you Bruce. If Batman and Batwoman could be a team they can be unstoppable."

"Look, everybody has their dreams. You're just a girl with another one of them. Go on home now. You found me and now you know where I am."

"It's funny, I thought when I'd find Batman that he'd see how I'm trying to help and take it in and appreciate me. Batman helps the city, but if one citizen from the city tries to help him, he shuns her. That's...fantastic. Some hero you really are. Shatter dreams."

I started heading for the door. "Wait!" I heard Alfred say. I turned around and looked at him as Bruce was looking at the floor. "How did you expect to be like him? He's a billionaire with all these supplies." He said. I opened the door. "I'm just a dreamer. I've been making it up as I go." I said and stepped out. I left Wayne Manor upset and heartbroken. I went home and started practicing my martial arts while reciting what he told me in his head. "Just a girl with a dream." Right. I had a cold shower after. When I stepped out I heard police sirens going and shook my head. If Batman were around I'd never hear that sound. I pulled out my costume I made myself from my closet and waited for nightfall to wear it. I slipped it on, a pair of tight black leather pants and a black t-shirt and vest with a bat insignia on the chest and weapons attached to me. I slipped on my homemade bat mask and headed out. I was sneaky but not like Batman can be. I heard a man ask me what I'm doing. I whirled around to see a man in a toque and raggedy clothing. "I'm saving the city from criminals." I said. "Oh really?" He asked me and flipped out a blade. I took mine off my arm and showed him it. It was a smaller blade but it's enough to hurt somebody. He laughed. "You're pathetic. Who are you suppose to be anyways? The Darkness?" He asked. "Although that's a cool name, no. I'm Batwoman." I said. "Batwoman? That's retarded."

"It is not!"

"Who named you? A third grader? You're not worth my time."

He put his blade back.

"Hey! I am NOT letting you walk the streets with a knife."

"Then try and fight me for it."

I ran at him with a war cry and he grabbed the wrist my small blade was in and was pushing on my veins, weakening my grip. I let it drop and he grabbed my throat. I kicked him between the legs and hurried away while gasping for air. I was suddenly taken down and he grabbed my right arm and put it behind me. "Doesn't hurt!" I said. He tried bending my hand up towards equal with my spine like a chicken arm. I struggled to get free but he still wasn't hurting me. "I used to wrestle back in high school wimp. You've got nothing on me." He said and put his hand at my elbow. I heard my shoulder pop and excrutiating pain riddled through me. I cried out in pain and felt him jump off of me. I looked to see he had fallen. I tried to move my arm and get up but the pain was so severe it grounded me. I lied still, immobile. "What were you thinking?" I heard Bruce's voice. "Don't move. I'll help you." He said. He moved my arm off my back and slowly and carefully rolled me onto my back. I saw him clean shaven and in a suit. "Batwoman huh? Nice outfit." He said. "I do what I can." I said. "It hurts so bad! I can't move." I told him. "I'm going to relocate your shoulder. It's going to hurt." He said and gently took a hold of my arm below my shoulder and my shoulder by my neck. He snapped it back in place and I yelled in pain. He held me immediately as I whimpered. "You're okay. You're alright." He said. I started to lose my sight and hearing. "Hey, Batwoman!" He said, fading like I was going underwater. Everything was white, then black.
