A floor length mirror stood before me but a maroon quilt sheilded it from my presence. It was a tradition in my pack that after your first breathtakingly painful shift you couldn't see yourself as your body sort of rearranged itself so that the other shifts wouldn't be as...painful.
Now my 24 hours had gone and I was ready to see what differences were made. All I knew was that your acne was gone, you matured and any impurites but anything else was purely you. My mum smiled at me slightly then moved the quilt only to reveal a grown up acne-free beautiful woman in front of me. Sadly, I was late for shifting so being eighteen with spots wasn't really a pretty sight. But it was worth the wait.
My mum's eyes gleamed with delight as sparks of tears appeared within them causing me to wrap my arms around her and hug her tightly. As I swivelled us around giggling madly I noticed half a moon and a wolf on the side of my neck.
"The moon becomes full and there will be another wolf on the other side when you find your mate and he marks you" She said, noticing my questioning eyes. I nodded and smiled, the moon was a pastel white and the wolf a midnight blue; the colour of my wolf. The wolf spirits could damn draw. In case your wondering, a mate is someone who was born for you, like what humans like to call soul mate. But that only happens in wolves as far as we know.
"But I thought that only happened to future Lunars?" By that I had answerd my own question and started squealing; I was going to be a Lunar! A future wife of a leader of the pack which is called an Alpha! Fuck yeah!
Walking away from the mirror, I peaked into the living room to see my dad reading the morning paper or at least, attempting to, as the sun was blinding his eyes. Never had I laughed so much at the sight of my dad beating up the streaks of the sun as if they would run away scared, beaten and bruised.
Hearing another giggle, I noticed my mum walked over and kissed his cheek, making him forget about the evil sun. Looking at them I thought about what my mate would be like. Cocky, nice, badass, nerdy. Preferably badass and cocky which I would knock down into a kind, but damn hot mate.
The clock chimed 7am and I realised I only had an hour to get to school. Ah shit. Running to my room I did my usual routine then threw on a tank top, USA shorts and converses, grabbed my bag and shot out of the door and into my black Audi. Yes, my parents were that awsome. It took ten minutes to get to Starbucks and another ten to wait for my order and get to school. By the time I reached the school car park the first bell had just rang and I really didn't feel like having my mood dampened by some 50 year old horny teacher because they never got any that night.
Groaning quietly I skipped up the steps and opened the door to the grand hallway, revealing a sea of students rushing to and from rooms like a mob of sheep. Putting my books into my locker, I arrived at form and sat at the back with the biggest smile on my face as everyone took in my mark.
The school was built for wolves in the 1800s so everyone knew what the mark meant. A few guys whistled and girls sent glares. Oh hell yeah, be jealous! Happy and content, I answered to the register and just tapped my pen waiting for the bell to go for English, my first lesson.
"Hey Jamie, looks like you've finally shifted then" whisperd Laura from across the room, being careful not to be caught by Mrs Jenkins. I nodded proudly and she grinned at me, doing a little happy dance with her fingers; she wasn't the normaliest of people.
Her hair was naturally straight and a chocolate brown, her eyes matched but with a hint of forest green mixed in. Her dark skin was perfect and spotless and her long slender body caught every guys attention. She didn't even have a bitchy personality because of her body; she was one of the nicest people in the school and honestly still pure. She had been my best friend since we were little and even then she was the little innocent cutie.
The bell finally went so I walked straight to English, sitting at the back as always and got out my homework set for today. I wasn't a goodey-goodey; I just hated having piles of homework on my desk.
'Nerd' coughed my wolf; she hated being in school and would much rather be outside running freely, taking over my body in wolf form. Groaning internally, I passed the work to my teacher and looked around the classroom for any changes Mr. Hopkins could of made.
