"You two will just adore the Capitol!" Says the escort, whose name I learn is Lucia.
I roll my eyes.
"Your right Lucia." Striker says. "I can't wait to die." He says sarcastic.
"You should feel honored. All of Panem will be watching, you will be famous. Do not take this for granite." She says this like we are spoiled children who don't appreciate what we have been given in life. She leaves after she says this.
"I'm Striker." He says extending his hand. I shake it.
"Finch." I say simply in my calm voice. However I am NOT calm.
"So listen." He starts. "I know we aren't exactly friends here, but just try not to hate me until we are in the arena."
I giggle a little. "Alright." I say. "Who is the mentor?" I ask. I was too nervous to care earlier.
"Sal Smith, I think." He says. I nod.
Sal Smith was a victor from about 10 years ago, the most recent from our District. He is very smart. The year he won he wasn't the most physical, his first fight was the last one between him and the career boy from District 1. He managed to outsmart him and win. Through the games, he never talked to ANYONE. He got his supplies from other people or from the tiny backpack he got far from the cornucopia as he ran into the woods. It was a great strategy and helped it was probably why he won.
Right then, Sal walks in. "Hello." He says with a sigh. "I bet you feel 'honored' to be here." He says sarcastically.
We both smile.
"I wanna talk to each of you alone for a couple minutes, why don't I start with you." He says pointing to me.
Striker leaves the room.
"I'm Sal." He says extending his hand.
"I'm Finch." I say shyly.
"Quiet one huh?" He says to me. I nod, not knowing what else to do. "I was the same way."
I smile and nod again.
"I have this strategy in mind for you..." He says. "You stay the way you are. Your personality from now on is sly and shy, in front of anyone but me. You don't make a big name for yourself at training, you don't want attention because then people will want to kill you. In training, you learn how to survive. When you are in there, you use what you learned, you don't kill."
We both smile because we know this plane is perfect for me. Plus, I don't need to pretend to be shy...
