“Lissette, are you there?” Theo whispered.
“No, I'm down the street buying a pineapple from a hobo! Of course I'm here!” I spat, trying to mask the fear in my voice.
“I just wanted to make sure. It is dark after all.”
Dark? That's an understatement.
“No shit, Sherlock.”
“So what do we do now?” I asked.
“Well. It's dark. We're alone. And there's a huge double bed upstairs-”
“Theo!” I exclaimed as I kicked him. The nice Theo that was here before, icing my ankle and wiping my tears, was long gone.
I couldn't see anything, that was what bothered me the most about the dark. You didn't know where you were, or what's around you. And to add on to that, my night vision sucked. So when it was dark, I was pretty much as blind as a bat. I leaned back against the wall, and curled up into a ball. This was the position I was going to stay in until the lights came back on. A few minutes passed, Theo and I in silence.
“Hey, are you okay?” I heard him ask.
“Not really.” I mumbled.
“Why? You afraid of the dark?” He said in a teasing tone.
“As a matter of fact, yes.” I retorted.
“It's okay, I'll protect you.”
I rolled my eyes, but unfortunately Theo couldn't see me.
“Promise?” I mocked.
“Promise.” He whispered.
“Well too bad. I don't need you to 'protect' me.” I scoffed.
We didn't say anything for a while. After a bout a minute, I heard shuffling.
“I'm gonna go get a flashlight. It will only be a minute babe, don't worry.” He said.
“No!”
“What?”
“You can't just leave me here, in the dark, by myself.” I murmured.
“Come with me then.” He said. I could even sense the smirk in his voice.
“My ankle.” I mumbled.
“In that case, I wont be going anywhere.”
He sat down next to me, our arms touching. I scooted away from him, not wanting to come in contact with any part of his body.
“Would you rather make out with me or suck a hobo's toe?” Theo asked.
“What the hell?” I asked in disbelief.
“Just answer the question.”
“I'd rather suck the hobo's toe any day.” I said, narrowing my eyes.
“Ouch. Your turn.” He murmured.
I stopped and thought for a moment.
“Would you rather see your grandpa naked or quit the play?” I asked.
Theo chuckled. I could almost see the amused expression on his face.
“That's easy. See my grandpa naked.”
“You're disgusting.” I mumbled.
He moved closer to me, so we were touching again. He leaned over, I could feel his breath on my cheek. We were way too close for my liking.
“Yeah, because if I quit the play, I wouldn't be able to kiss your little lips.” He whispered in my ear.
“And why would you want to do that?” I asked.
“So then you'll realize what you've been missing all this time” He uttered seductively. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
Just then, the familiar sound of my ring tone reached my ears.
“Really? The Super Mario Theme Song?” Theo laughed.
I ignored him and took out my phone from my back pocket.
“Hello?” I said into the speaker.
“Hey Liss, it's Alex.”
“Oh. What do you need?”
“Can you do me a favor?” He asked, using the voice he used when he desperately wanted something. What was he up to now?
“Depends. What do you want?”
“Well, there's this girl.”
“Keep talking.”
“And she told me about her boyfriend, and then asked if I was single. And I said that I had a girlfriend. Which I don't, obviously.”
“So you lied to her? Never mind, what do you need?”
“I wasn't finished. She said that we should all go on a double date. And she'll bring her boyfriend, and I would bring my girlfriend. I panicked and didn't want to seem like I didn't actually have a girlfriend so I said yes. So now I need a date for Friday night.”
“And you want me to be your fake girlfriend?”
I glanced at Theo, he had his eyes narrowed at me.
“Yeah.”
I sighed.
“Ask Gemma.”
“She said no. And I know you can't say no to me.”
“Fine, I'll go on the stupid date, but what's in it for me?”
“A date with a sexy best friend and free food.”
I laughed, earning me a suspicious look from Theo.
