CHAPTER 3 – With A Lie To Match –

“Jett , huh? Cool Name ,bro .” Kaleb said . He had to admit there were not that many people with that name.

“Thanks .”

“I’m Kaleb Summers .”

“Woe wait , aren’t you like a getting to be famous musician? “

Kaleb chuckled “I’ve hadn’t had a hit the top ten yet but I hoping my new single will get me recognized . “

Jett nodded his head .“Sounds fool proof ,man.”

“Anyway ,how do you now Angelle?” He asked . He was a bit curious on how she reacted to seeing this guy. She seemed scared.

“Oh ,uh , we are ,um, we kinda ,” Jett scratched his head.”, almost like , used to ,uh date ?” Talk about very uncomfortable answer . But the little light switched to on side  in Kaleb’s head.

Was this the guy who left her?

“ Really now ? For how long ?” He questioned. He cocked his head to the side, crossing his arms, and widening his stance.

“ Um , A long time?”

“ That’s weird. “ Kaleb turned to think.

“What?”

“What?” Kaleb asked .

“No , what did you say?”

“When ?”

“Just now .”

“Oh , nothing .” Kaleb ignored Jett’s request to repeat himself . First ,he didn’t like to do that. Second ,that was supposed to be an inside thought . “Well ,I gotta go back to work, see you around ,man.”

Jett said bye and walked away .

Kaleb put his hands in his pockets and walk the seven feet to his car. As he sat down ,in his car , he began to think .

Who is Jett?

He shook his head. He didn’t need any more drama in his life. But for some reason he felt almost as if he wanted to help , but that was only in the pit his stomach . He didn’t seem to realize that odd feeling until he saw Angelle so distressed.

He put his hands on the wheel and back out of his fourth parking spot.

As he drove out he called Olivia . She didn’t answer . Kaleb looked as his phone for a second .

Weird .

Olivia always answered the phone . And he means always. Ever since they started dating, she had almost  never not answer, only once or twice but she usually called him back three seconds after . He stuck he phone in his pocket and drove home.

When he got there the apartment was empty .

 Olivia should have been back by now.

He went to open the fridge and see if there was anything but he then realized he didn’t buy anything.

He turned around to walk back to his office and he saw a note on the office door.

Dear Kaleb,

I got a phone call from my mom and said that my sister was in the hospital in New York . She was visiting my cousin and the taxi she was in crashed with a truck . Mary is in the emergency room and I had to leave right away . Don says he’s not sure if she is going to make it . Please don’t call me ,I’ll call you when I get notifications . I love you .

Kaleb’s heart began to beat fast . He felt so guilty for not taking her out to eat . Hell , He felt bad for being an ass this afternoon. He saw the little wet blotches on the pages .

“Dammit!”He yelled out and on target his cellphone rang .

Olivia.

“Babe are you okay ? “ He asked .

“Kaleb , Kayla is-, she’s dead. “

 “Olivia , What happened ?”

“She was visiting Don and –and there was truck who was - he was drving too fast and he crashed into them! The man wasn’t even hurt!He’s fine! “ He heard her shout.“But that’s not the worst part , She was pregnant !! Kaleb I was going to be auntie !Oh my god Kaleb . I think I’m going to –to faint . “

“Babe , calm down .”He purred .” Everything is going to be okay .”

“How?”

“I’ll go there .”

“What ?”She sounded surprised .” You, you  can’t miss work like that .”

“I don’t care ,If it’s for someone I care about , I’ll do anything .”

 “No , “ she declined .” you can’t ,stay there and I’ll be back in couple of days .”

Kaleb was weireded out . “What? But you’re a wreck .”

“No Kaleb ,Stay there ,Okay.I’ll be fine .” She sounded different , almost as if she hiding something.

“But—“

“I have to go , I’ll see you soon .”
