She’s so beautiful, Brent thought as he gazed at Lily intensely, although she would never know how much he loved her because the love of a guardian is strictly forbidden by the high council.
Her soft, honey coloured tumbling curls lay naturally down her back. Her eyes were like crystals of midnight blue and were constantly sparkling in the warmth of summer. Her sun kissed skin was smooth and flawless – she was of average height and her body was toned and athletic. Prior to her death Lily enjoyed sports – mostly water sports: surfing, wind surfing, jet skiing and sailing were her favourites among swimming tennis and running but that was all lost when she died. Sometimes she looked so lonely and miserable – her eyes gave away her emotions, the sparkle of enthusiasm or the sparkle of a tear.
Brent understood Lily he’d known her since she was 12 and they were friends ever since. They met Ambrose and Eve in secondary school too. She had a traumatic childhood as her Father passed away when she was 6 due to cancer. The cancer took him away from her, slowly it spread throughout his body, his soul and then he slowly began to deteriorate. That was the most painful part, watching him slowly decay when she felt so useless, so helpless. After her father died her Mother became a heavy smoker and drinker. Lily would come home from school only to find her Mum wasted and high from all of the junk she smoked. Lily didn’t understand why she did it. Just because cancer took Lily’s Dad doesn’t mean she should purposefully waste away her chances at life. She was ruining her body and her mind. She knew she was doing it, she knew there would be nothing left of her, she just left us, unprotected from the world. It got to the point where she could no longer look after us or herself. So my older brother Miles who is now 22 decided he would take matters into his own hands and become Lily’s legal guardian. He took care of Lily from then on; he knew that their Mum was incapable to feel love after their father died. His death took her away from her own children; it took her away from herself. She is still alive and living with Miles, she promised she would get better for them, but her promises aren’t always ones that stick.
Lily missed them with all her heart, even though her Mother was forcing herself to live a life of decay she was still her Mother and she still loved her more than anything. Most of all she misses Miles because she knew her death would affect him the most.
