Blue Moon

The next day, the morning bell rang of River's second day of school. The nerves she felt just the day before had returned, tieing her intestines into a careless knot. She wasn't sure why she was nervous. Was it because of the inevitable emotions felt by the students that would be passed on to her due to their unconscious broadcasting? Or was it the very thought of catching a glimpse of Jai amongst the crowd of hormonal adolesents.

She walked through the chaotic hallway and headed straight down to English Lit. As she walked teenage girls loitered around the girls bathrooms, constantly reapplying layers of foundation and masacra, and gossiping about the latest news. The stench of over-whelming fragrances entwined together and inhabited the air, causing those that passed to sneeze. Boys fought amonst themselves, arguing which football team was better than who, who would win the premier league and beginning to arrange their wild saturday night plans.

"Hey! Sorry about last night, my Dad had a bit of a... breakdown" River smiled sheepishly, walking up behind Elsie.
     "Excuse me?" She said spitefully.
"Elsie?" River asked, her face obviously failed to mask her confusion.
"What the hell? I'm not Elsie, I'm Erin, you moron." She spat.
"Oh sorry, you look alot like her. Sorry to have bothered you" River shrugged trying to ignore the frustration growing in Erin and to hide her own distaste.
    "That's 'cause we're twins, arsehole"

Erin was the exact double of Elsie, but was also completely different in every other aspect possible. Erin looked exactly the same as Elsie. She had the same delicate pixie like face and the same beautiful blonde hair that fell elegantly around her face. The only visual differences between them was their eyes; Elsie had eyes the colour of fresh, green grass where as Erin had eyes the colour of dark oak. Erin had a hard and threatening voice, causing those caught in her crossfire to cower, but Elsie's were soft and welcoming and was able to bring comfort to the most dire of situations.

Although Erin put on a mean-girl fascade, River could feel the pain hidden away beneath the masquerade. She could feel a sense of regret hidden within Erin, yet she was afraid to show it. She was worried about how she would be percieved by her so-called friends and how she'd be rejected from the school's hierarchy of popularity if the others disagreed with her. River felt a pang of sympathy as Erin broadcasted, but what was she supose to do?

"Is this little mutt causing you problems, Erin?" A venomous voice chortled.
"Oh not at all Cam, in fact she was just leaving" Erin smirked. "Well, be gone you little pest" She added, shooing her down the corridors with manicured nails.

River's sympathy toward Erin began to reside and was replaced with a growing feeling of dislike as it dawned on her that she was one of Camryn's pathetic little followers. No wonder she feels regret, i regret being within a 5 mile radius of Camryn! River thought to herself.

She refused to budge an inch for the likes of the two airheads in front of her. Even if one of them was Elsie's sister. She stood like a rock with one arched eyebrow raised to say, Really?
"I don't think you heard her correctly, she said leave" Camryn started.
"Oh, i heard her. But im not going to leave just because you, or her, say so. I'm my own person, thank you for the suggestion though"
"Really? Well listen here, this is how it works. We..." Camryn paused, indicating to herself and Erin. "Are at the top of the school. You are just the weird, little new kid, who's friends with the other nerdy, little art freak"

Erin flinched slightly at the insult which was obviously aimed towards her twin. River could feel the slightest bit of hatred that radiated from Erin towards Camryn for openly talking about her sister like that infront of her, but she knew there was nothing that she could do. Camryn would ruin her if she did.
"That means you do what we say, got it?"

River was about to open her mouth in protest but was interupted by a hypnotisingly deep voice.

    "Is everthing okay?" Jai asked.
"Jai bear!" Camryn said throwing herself into Jai's arms purposefully, as if she knew about River's recent admiration for him. "Yeah, but this creepy new girl just keeps harrassing us. She just..."
"Actually, i was talking to River?" He said, leaving the embrace.
