The house was quiet. Not a thing to be heard. But then all of a sudden I heard a loud shriek. I woke up panting. "What was that" I thought to myself. I arose from my bed and slowly.

Stumbling slightly when I reached my feet. I uprighted myself using my bedside locker as something to balance on. I walked towards my bedroom window. My eyes searched the road and saw nothing.

I was almost past the the window as my eyes met those of a person whose face was covered by a black balaclava except his icy blue dead looking eyes and chapped mouth. In his hand he carried a knife covered in blood.

At his feet lay the body of a woman who seemed not to be moving. I looked closer. Her chest wasn't moving to take in breaths, her eyes stayed open not once blinking and blood was spurting from an artery in her neck.

I quickly ran towards my bedside table and groped for my phone. I dailed 999 and put the phone up to my ear. It had unluckily no reiception whatsoever. I looked back out the window. The man was gone and so was the woman. All that was left was a pool of blood where her motionless body used to be.

My eyes once again scanned the road but this time I saw nothing. I walked around my room trying to get a good reception. I still had no luck. I made my way into the landing at the top of the stairs unlocking a door to the attic.

I climbed the icy cold metal steps. When I reached the attic I swiched on the light and hauled the ladder back up then I closed the door hoping not to be found. I heard nothing for a few minutes but then heard a knock on the door.

I began to panic now. The murderer will kill me now I thought very worried now. Then I heard it again only louder. Again and again louder each time. Until suddenly the door was knocked in. I shouted with fear. "HELP" I shouted again and again.

I heard them walking up the stairs. I didn't even dare to breathe. The footsteps stopped. I heard what sounded like wing beats. Then the door burst open and there he was. Bright blue hair fangs coming down past his bottom lip and wings spread to full length for flight.

I ran away hopelessly. I then remembered the attic window. I ran to it. The vampire right behind me. It was locked. I smashed it open with my elbow and jumped. I slid along the slanted roof on my way to the ground and then was sent plummeting to the ground when I reached the edge.

I landed on my feet. It hurt but I wasn't badly injured. I began to sprint. The vampire glided out of my window and softly landed on the ground. I continued running the vampire took off once again and began to follow me. I continued running not daring to turn around.

I then got a stitch in my left side but kept running as fast as I could manage. I decided finally to look back. He was right behind me. He didn't seem to show any sign of slowing down. I raced past house after house. Any time I came to a junction I kept running not even checking for traffic. I tried to run faster. The vampire overtook me. I tried to turn around but tripped over a rock. I hit my head and my vision went slightly blurred.

The vampire landed a few meters away from me. I clambered to my feet and began to run again my vision cleared up. The vampire shouted at me "You may have escaped this time but I know where you live". He then flew away. I took me a while to figure out why he flew away until I realised that the sun was beginning to rise.

I knew I couldn't go home for long because the vampire would expect that. I went home and packed some essentials like clothes, food, money and water. I left my house again for the last time and began to look for shelter. It was dusk before I found a small shed that would last me for the night. I looked out a window in the door. I looked to the sky. I saw the shape of the vampire silhouetted by the moon.

"I wonder will he find me"I thought to myself. Then all of a sudden the vampires flight path changed. It was aimed in my direction. I ducked down in hope that he didn't see me. I looked again. Thankfully it was flying in a different direction now.

I was so relieved at that moment. I could feel my heart beat slowly slowing down until it reached normal pace. I routed through my bag and found a book that I must have accidentally in my haste. The title read "true stories of mythical creatures". I thought to myself this is probably worth a try in my time of need.

I read the index and found a story about vampires and another about how to defeat them. I found the page it read "The only way to defeat a vampire is to destroy it's coffin. Without a coffin a vampire has no where to refresh itself during the day time" . This is exactly what I needed I said to myself. I now have a small spark of hope.
