Chapter Fifteen
My nervousness didn't calm as we made our way over towards a long bar with every assortment of expensive alcoholic bottle behind it. The bar workers, who were dressed smartly in black and white, served the crowd of people that lingered by it efficiently.
I absorbed my new surroundings with interest, as I stood closely next to Colton. I’d never seen anything so classy in all my life, and I wondered if this was the kind of life Colton lives all the time? The barman placed a bottle of champagne and two glasses on the counter without Colton saying anything at all. I expected him to pull out his wallet or some money, but he didn’t, instead he picked up the bottle and glasses and walked away.
“Too posh to pay?”
Colton smiled, the kind of smile that lit up the dark brown in his eyes. My body sighed dreamily. “I know the owner...and have a tab.”
"Oh."
He must be well known to even have a barman know which tab to use.
We walked through an open doorway that lead into a seating area with soft music playing in the background. It was semi-packed with people in groups or in couple’s, fine dining and mingling. Everything was just classy compared to the hormone drunken craze I just come from.
As we passed, two obvious gold diggers in expensive designer dresses eyed Colton up and down like a meal. I felt annoyed enough to glare at them and innocently place my hand on Colton's arm, stating my own claim without him noticing. I didn't even know why I did it, but I took thrill in seeing them glare at me disgustingly, before taking the hint and storming off.
I removed my hand and continued to follow Colton over to a set of plush leather couches in a dimly lit corner. After he sat, he tapped the seat next to him and hazily I sank down beside him, trying my best to control the flutters inside my stomach.
He poured us drinks and handed me one of the crystal glasses. I looked at it with a raised eyebrow, "What's the occasion?"
"You don't need an occasion to drink champagne here..."
"But I’m underage," I reminded him sarcastically and took a sip.
He rolled his eyes, "Champagne is hardly a drink that will get you drunk."
That was true. It should just be water. I took a deep breath and once again looked around the beautifully decorated interior still very much in the state of awe. My eyes grew into a sort of trance as I gazed at the white, marble floor that shone under the grand crystal, drop chandeliers. The place just looked magical.
“You’ve never been to a place like this before, have you?” Colton asked and I realized he had been watching me all along.
I looked up at him through my eyelashes bashfully and went through the process of melting and wanting those lips of his on mine all over again. I found my body was hanging on a thread and I was worried that soon that thread was going to snap. It was scary being this on edge.
"Never..." I mumbled honestly, "Do you come here often?"
"Sometimes for meetings, or social gatherings."
“Colton," I said and he frowned, like he knew what I was going to say.
"Don't say it."
I sighed, "I have to...I don’t think I’m good enough for you. I mean, your life is very different...I don't get why you want to dance this dance.”
He frowned confusedly, "Dance this dance?"
"Keeping me around while you still have a girlfriend...Who is more your style. I'm not. I don't get why you're bothering."
I looked away from him and nibbled on my lip. The women around here were exactly Jenny’s type of people and Colton was a part of this rich, expensive world. My life was school, lame house parties and hanging around with a few friends in the shopping centre's parking lot.
Our worlds are clashing together because we come from two different lifestyles. Taking me here made me realize this. I was eighteen next month and still unsure about what I wanted to do in my future. I was an average student pulling in average grades. I didn't even know what I wanted to do as a career, and college just seemed so far away.
After learning about this whole new secret world of werewolves, it just seemed crazy to think about careers and future life things. I felt my lip being tugged from my teeth, when I looked Colton was looking at me seriously after he had physically stopped me from nibbling on my lip. His fingers slowly moved down and soon he was grasping hold of my chin.
