Chapter Two (Cal's POV)

The day was slow.

Only the occasional bikers flew through town, taking up not even half the boothes in town. A couple of families passed through on their way to Florida. That was about it.

I leaned against the counter, sighing tiredly as I pinched the bridge my nose between my fingers. I looked up when I heard a tongue clicking and relaxed to see Aidan standing there, resting his hip on the counter, folding his arms over his chest.

"You and Rylan got in a fight." He stated. I cocked a brow at him, folding my arms over my chest, making him drop his to put them on his hip. I smirked, then shook my head and looked away.

"It's nothing I can't fix." I lied simply. Aidan frowned at this, coming over to sit on one of the tables in front of me, resting his wet rag over his knee.

"You say that every time," He complained, "And Rylan's still a douchebag. You guys can't possibly be mates. The Goddess isn't that mean. Obviously you guys don't fit. Rylan should mate with a cactus." I laughed at that and Aidan grinned, resting his chin in his hands.

"See? Even you agree." He insisted. I smiled now, shaking my head and glancing off to the side to see Rylan scrubbing down one of the boothes near a group of bikers. Even the bikers knew not to mess with Rylan the way they messed with Aidan and I. They kept silent and ate their meals while Rylan vigorously scrubbed the table.

Even I could tell he was still pissed off.

Which meant he wasn't going to take up my offer to do something together today.

"I can't abandon him." I said at last, looking at Aidan, who frowned. He studied my face in silence for a while, then pouted.

"You're too nice, Cal. Get mean."

"Then I'd be like Rylan." I pointed out. Aidan laughed, smacking his knee and getting to his feet as he tossed the rag over his shoulder, folding his arms over his chest.

"That's true... It sucks, though. You're too cool and nice to be with Rylan. He should be counting his blessings. Someday, some really attractive guy is going to walk through that door and he'll be your mate. Not Rylan. The Goddess just messed up this time." He explained hopefully. I smiled faintly, but didn't respond as the front door bell jingled and a group of customers came in.

I grimaced and shared an uneasy look with Aidan at the looks of them.

"Not today, though." Aidan added onto his previous comment, leaning forward to rest his arms on his knees.

The bikers were huge and the stereotypical "just got out of jail and need some booze" look. Fantastic. Just what I needed today. I sighed and gave Aidan a wave and he just grimaced and stayed where he was as I walked over to greet them.

"Hello, welcome to The Mockingbird. How many?" I asked, picking up a couple menus from the podium near the entrance. The first biker with a bandana around his forehead and greasy black hair just smirked, leaning on the podium.

"Five, if you join us." He replied. I stiffened for a second, then smiled wearily.

Oh Goddess. Why today? Why today of all days?

"Sorry, I've already eaten. Come this way." I answered, making him cock a brow as I turned my back to him, leading him to a boothe on the other side of the arcade. I gestured for them to sit and they did as I passed out the menus, reaching into the pocket of my apron to take out a pad and pencil.

"What's your name?" The biker asked, resting his elbow on the table, knuckles propping up his head. I tried not to frown as I glanced at him, then tapped my name tag. The biker shrugged.

"Can't read." He answered. This time, I did frown.

"Cal. My name's Cal. Can I start you guys off with any drinks?" I asked, avoiding the greasy haired biker. Although, the rest of them weren't that attractive either. They seriously looked like they just busted out of the slammer. Sure, most bikers were intimidating. My pack was technically a group of bikers, but we didn't threaten people or make obnoxious comments.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood today.

I wrote down their drinks on the pad, then went to fetch them from the kitchen. I passed Aidan, who screwed up his face into a disgusted expression.

"Eugh, I can smell them from here." He grumbled under his breath, hopping off the table to follow me behind the bar. I just nodded in agreement, grimacing before I filled up the cups, setting them on a tray.
