Introduction

Sasha gaped incredulously, her eyes wide with disbelief. "T-this is insane!" She spat, slamming her hands down on the mahogany table she glared at The Director. "Immortality?" She scoffed. The Director raised an eyebrow at the woman, looking as if he couldn't understand the reason for her outburst; which not even that lovely scent of formalin could keep silent, and the air was thick with it.

"Is there a problem, Miss Smith?" He drummed his fingers on tables, her co-workers stared at the man with mixed reactions of disgust and morbid curiosity. "It makes sense, doesn't it? Everything I said is based off of fact, you can't deny my theory makes sense." The redhead stared at the man with disdain. It was true, it did sound logical-certain doses of chemical compounds does aid blood flow in aging people. Most of what the Director plans to do is used in transplant surgery and dieting research but this is just too disgusting.

"Humans are not meant to play God." She growled. Immortality... an invincibility, a power to lose the capacity to die, it was a lovely thought as well as frightening, she could admit."It's morally wrong!"

The man sitting next to her barked out a laugh and grinned at her with tobacco-stained teeth. "Is that your only argument? Sit down, honey. Maybe you might find some reason to object." Sasha scowled, but sat down nonetheless.

"As I was saying," The Director continued. "The brain controls the body completely and so, as the body slowly degrades around it, it continues to function. The reason the body is left to degrade is-in theory- the brain is set on a timer which is why mayflies can only live to about thirty minutes to a day, yet other insects can often last longer; the answer is simple. The brain tells us to die-"

Another woman spoke up, "When does this happen? I'm curious, at what age does this happen?" She curled a strand of brown hair around her finger.

The man smiled, "I was getting to that Gertrude. Anyway, as the brain grows it begins to make connections, resulting in the human becoming more mature and having an advancing brain." He cocked his head, his own graying hair falling in front of his eyes. "At the age of thirty five to fifty, these connections slowly break down, resulting in forgetfulness, dementia, etcetera." Swerving his chair and turning his projector on, he said "In theory, the brain has a 'kill switch' that activates as soon as it has fully develops." A young man walked into the all-white room holding a few boards a charts, setting them up.

"Thank you Director." He said politely, his eyes crinkled at the corner.

"Absolutely no problem." The Director chuckled.

"In all normal humans, this 'kill switch' will initiate a shutdown sequence in the bodies functions, which occurs over several years. As soon as the body is fully shut down, the brain will be forced to die through lack of oxygenated blood." The younger man said pointing to at the charts projected on the screen. "If we could remove the kill switch, we can give the human mind immortality and-"

"And these are the basic need-to-knows for the next experiment." The director interrupted, his eyes glared straight into Sasha's. "This is all I'm willing to give out, if anyone isn't interested in this project, or thinks it's 'morally wrong' you're free to leave." With that said, none of the twelve scientist moved a muscle. Sasha curled her hands into fists, feeling disgusted for being so curious about the immortality project.

The director gave a disgusting smirk, "Let the project start."
