One Month

“Ohmygod, Lucy. If you mention him one more time...” Lily threatens. Lucy and Lily are my two twin sisters who this year joined my high school, William Henry Harrison High (also called WHH, for William Henry High). They’re both fifteen and obnoxious but as different as you can be appearance wise. Lucy is blonde with massive light green eyes. She’s also tall as any girl I’ve known. It’s insane. She’s almost taller than me and I’m six foot two. Lily is short and brunette with light eyes that have green and gold specks in them. She’s also only about five foot five if you’re feeling generous. I look more like Lily and act more like her - Lucy has a tendency to be a drama queen. I'm not saying Lily isn't dramatic and overly bitchy but Lucy really likes to push people's buttons.

“Calm your tits. It’s no big deal, right? He’s a thing of the past,” Lucy shrugs.

“Who are you guys arguing about?” I ask and pour myself a cup of orange juice.

“Tyler Little,” Lucy sings.

“Who’s Tyler Little?”

“Only the hottest guy to ever walk the Earth. Except some of your friends. They’re right up there too,” Lucy tells me. “He basically flirted with Lily-”

“You’re such a bitch. God, Lucy. I don’t understand what you’re problem is,” Lily snaps. Normally Lily isn’t anything like this so I know this whole Tyler situation was a big one.

“Watch your mouth,” Mom says. She kisses me on the cheek and hugs Lily and Lucy. “Where is your other sister? And your brother?”

“Jason is over at Karen’s house,” I say. Jason is my twenty-five year old brother who comes in and out of living at home. Karen is his girlfriend of four years and he mainly stays at her apartment. I don’t blame him. I’m out of here as soon as I can leave. “And Erica is probably sleeping.”

“Still? Can you make sure you get her up?”

“Yeah,” I tell her.

“Thanks, Blake,” Mom smiles at me.

“Yeah,” I reply and Mom just ruffles my hair.

“Bye guys!” She yells and walks out the door. Lily sits quietly and looks at her cereal. Lucy slowly pours milk into a cup. This is normally how the mornings go - Lucy pushing Lily’s buttons and Lily snapping. If they weren’t twins we wouldn’t have nearly as many problems in our house but since they are, we never have a dull moment.

“I’m going to wake up Erica,” I tell them and get no reply, which isn’t a surprise. Walking down the hall I try to ignore the fact that Lucy never closes her door and manages to have some sort of lingerie thrown across a chair or her door knob. It’s kind of distracting, especially noting the fact I know a couple girls that I’ve hooked up with and wear less sexy things than what she has. It’s kind of disturbing.

Erica is the youngest of the family at thirteen. She’s still kind of a baby to us, since she doesn’t speak up much. I don’t mind having her around and she’s probably my favorite. If I had to pick one family member to spend an entire day with, it would probably be her. It’s probably because she’s a good listener and catches on fast and goes along with anything anyone wants to do instead of being headstrong.

“Erica,” I say and push open her door. She’s stretched out over her bed, hair in a matted mess. I also like her the most because she doesn’t spend four hours in the bathroom. By the time she’s up, Lily and Lucy have gotten their entire morning routine done and are ready for school. They have to be up at least an hour early so they can get their hair and makeup done, which is ridiculous. “Erica.”

“What?” She asks from the covers and looks at me. “Do I have to get up?”

“Yeah,” I say and she replies with a groan.

“Really? I feel like I just fell asleep,” Erica tells me and sits up, pushing hair from her face. She gives me a look that reminds me of Emily - the same doe eyed, light-hearted look.
