Chapter Thirty Three

It was the end of the week, and Chad was throwing Laney and Wes a good-bye party. They had both shot their last scene that morning and as a thank you, Chad had planned a wrap party for everyone on set. The actual movie wouldn’t be finished for another two weeks, but the only people needed for those scenes were Breeze and Tanor, so Wes and Laney were allowed to go home to finish out the rest of their summer.

“Man, can you believe we’ve been here for a month and a half?” Wes asked her as they walked around the cafeteria set, which had been filled with food, drinks and good-bye posters and streamers.

“I know, it’s crazy,” Laney answered and popped a pretzel into her mouth.

“So, how’d you like it? This having been your first experience and all,” he asked her as they sat down on the bench.

“It was a lot of fun,” Laney said honestly. “I had no idea that so much went into making a movie. I learned a lot, with the help of you and Chad and everyone else.”

“Ah, you caught on fast,” he said, punching her in the arm playfully.

“I could see myself getting used to this,” she said, thinking about the last six weeks. “I mean, I basically got paid to learn how to play soccer, spend numerous days out by a pool and make out with boys. What else could a girl want?”

“Yeah, but wait until the movie actually comes out, before you say you want to do this again,” Wes said. “Once you’re up on that big screen, you’re life will never be the same. You think it was crazy with ‘The Cheese,’ wait until everyone in America knows your name.”

“You’re sort of freaking me out,” Laney said, jokingly.

“I’m just saying, that things are going to be changing real soon,” he said, looking around the room. “But if it means anything to you, I hope you keep doing this. You’re a cool girl and this business needs more people like you. And less of them.”

Wes pointed at Breeze and Tanor, who had just walked in the door, hand in hand. Laney would have thought they would have been happy to be able to go public with their new-found love, but surprisingly, they both had frowns on their faces. She watched as they strutted over to a table in the corner and sat down facing each other.

“Wonder what’s up with them?” Laney asked thoughtfully, as she studied the couple.

“Oh, I’d say they might be a little pissed at what they saw in ‘The Cheese’ today,” Sage said, walking up from behind them.

“What do you mean?” Wes asked.

“Take a look,” she said tossing the magazine down onto the table in front of them.

Laney gasped as she saw a picture of Tanor on the front topless and another picture of Breeze, looking like she was about to be sick. The headline read, “Young Hollywood’s Best Kept Secrets.”

When they turned to the page in the middle of the magazine, they read all about how Tanor regularly visits an L.A. salon to get his chest waxed and highlights put into his hair. Somehow, they had gotten pictures of him with foils all through his hair and ones where an older lady was applying the wax on his fuzzy chest and stomach.

The other story was about how on-screen smooches made Breeze sick—literally. The feature talked about how she would throw up before every makeout scene. There were even quotes from former co-stars who claimed that sometimes she wasn’t so minty fresh. And the picture they had of her was just awful.
