Chapter 1

........................................................................................................

I leaned back on the blanket and watched the sunset, breathing in the fresh air and wondering how I'd gotten so lucky.

Michael's hand tightened around mine and I snuggled closer to him. His warmth enveloped me as my eyes slowly closed in comfort.

"I'm glad we got to do this, Katie." He whispered, his breath tickling my ear.

I smiled and nodded, my hand felt the steady beat of his heart.

"Do you like me, Michael?" I asked quietly.

He must have heard the smile in my voice, because he rolled us over until he was leaning over me, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

Kissing my forehead gently, he looked into my eyes and just stared for a long while.

"I like you a lot." He said sincerely.

I couldn't help grinning at that, and pulled him down for a kiss.

Being with Michael made everything perfect. I'd been through some bad relationships, had my heart broken a couple of times too, but nothing could beat this one perfect moment.

It was all in the distant past, being in Michael's arms was all that mattered.

People could say whatever they wanted; I was only going to believe my heart.

He pulled back suddenly and looked up, his eyes widening. I heard it too, and pushed myself up to see what the commotion was about.

In the near distance, a vehicle was approaching at full speed, the sand on the beach stirring everywhere.

Michael quickly stood and helped me up, and we watched as a jeep came to a halt a few meters away from us.

Coughing and waving my hand in front of me, I tried to get a clear view of the driver. I didn't have to wait long.

Michael was hurled backwards and tackled onto the sandy beach. I screamed and stood frozen, watching the two figures wrestling on the ground.

Unable to do anything, I looked around for some help.

"Stop it!" I yelled, my voice unheard.

Michael groaned and the punching stopped, the attacker stood up first, spit once and turned to face me.

I narrowed my eyes to get a better look and almost choked.

"Brandon!?" I stuttered, surprised to see Michael's brother standing there.

He didn't say a word in return, instead grabbed me by the arm and pulled me towards him.

I was panting from loss of breath when he finally steadied me to stand an inch away from him.

"You need to leave... now!" he demanded.

Sudden anger washed over me, no one had the right to talk to me like that. Especially not after beating my boy friend for no damn reason!

"I will not leave. First, tell me why you hurt Michael!" I said, kneeling on the ground beside Michael's crumpled form.

His nose was bleeding, and he continued to groan as I helped him sit up.

Brandon chuckled while I pulled the scarf from my hair and clutched it to Michael's bleeding nose, the scarf reddened in an instant and my heart took a dive.

"Oh my god, you broke his nose!" I yelled, my anger rising.

Whirling around to face Brandon, I threw my hands in the air in confusion.

"What the hell made you come here and do this?" I asked.

As usual, there was no answer. Brandon just stood there and cast Michael an evil look, hatred and revulsion in his gaze.

I gave up on getting him to say anything and turned back to Michael, he was able to sit on his own now and clutch the scarf himself.

I was pretty much helpless and couldn't do much to make Michael more comfortable, his pain was obvious.

The attack had been unexpected; otherwise I knew Michael was quite able to defend himself. After all, he was athletic and fit and Brandon didn't have too much strength on him.

At least, that's what I'd thought. But after witnessing the recent fight, I wasn't so sure anymore.

I wrapped my arm around Michael's shoulders and tried my best to lift him, it seemed to work at first but his knees gave again and he fell to the ground.

"Could you at least call for help if you're going to just stand there?" I asked Brandon, disgusted by his attitude.

His eyebrows shot up and he grinned at me.

"You have no idea, do you?" he asked, as if he'd just come to a realization.

I shook my head in annoyance and pushed my hair back, frustrated and tired of everything.

"What the hell are you talking about!?" I asked.

Michael somehow got to his feet and balanced himself long enough to grab my hand.

"D-Don't listen to him, Katie." He muttered.

Brandon laughed dryly and his smug look returned, raising my curiosity.

I squeezed Michael's hand in a reassuring gesture and took a step closer to Brandon.

"Go ahead, finish what you started." I told him.

Michael tried to pull me back again, but this time I was more interested in what Brandon had to say. I let go of his hand and slowly walked towards Brandon until his smile stopped me.

"Your Mr. Perfect isn't too perfect after all, Katie." He said.

I frowned at him hard, trying to decipher what he was saying. If he was implying something about Michael then he should just get to the point.

Frankly, I was tired sick of all the bullshit I'd been hearing recently. Michael wasn't the same anymore; he'd changed for the better. And he'd done it for me.

If people couldn't adjust to that, then they could take a flying leap.

Yes, Michael's past was dark and there were secrets even he wasn't ready to let go of, but deep down I knew he was the guy I'd fallen for.

I loved Michael with all my heart, and nothing Brandon had to say could change that.

"What do you mean he's not perfect? No one is, Brandon." I said, still frustrated. I wanted to be lying on the beach with Michael beside me.

I hadn't been anticipating his brother's arrival.

Brandon cleared his throat and his smile disappeared, which scared me even more. It was nothing new for Brandon to be grinning all the time, whether the news is good or bad.

But when he got serious like that, it usually meant trouble.

"Michael did it again, Katie." He said quietly.

And just like that, my world came crashing down.

A/N: So, this is a new experiment. By now, if you've read my other stories, you're

Probably used to all the "drama" involved. Basically, I was itching to get started on

Something new, and came up with this. The idea's been in my head a long time, I just

Had to get it on paper.

My question is... Shall I continue? Or not?
