I pulled my hair back into a ponytail. A car honk was in the distance and my boyfriend Austin yelled,

“Kelly we’re gonna be late for the cook out!”

I open my bedroom window and yell out of my crazy, overreacting but adorable boyfriend,

“Will you chill? I’m heading down now!”

My name is Kelly Pitt and my boyfriend’s name is Austin Adams, we’re both juniors in high school. School just let out and now we’re heading over to a BBQ to celebrate the end of the year. We’ve been dating since sophomore year and now next year we’re going to be seniors. Though our relationships have had its fair share of ups and downs, Austin will forever be my best friend and the best boyfriend anyone could ever ask for. I look at myself in the mirror one more time. I’m wearing a white shirt, pink triple hopped earrings and bright yellow sunglasses. My bathing suit is underneath. I grab my phone and check the time, its 12:30, that silly boy. They party didn’t even start until 1:25. I roll my eyes.

I run down the stairs and yell,

“Bye Mom!”

My mom yelled back,

“Bye honey! Be safe!”

I opened the front door and closed the door closed. Austin was smiling at me and got out of the car. Austin wore a bright orange shirt with his sleeves cut out, his hair styled into a Mohawk. I ran to him, jumping into his large muscular arms. He kissed the side of my forehead and said,

“Alright, now that Kelly Pitt’s finally ready, let’s go!”

I smacked his chest.

“Oh hush! You’ve been waiting at the most ten minutes!”

We both climb into the car and make our way to the first BBQ of the summer.

We arrived to the party thirty minutes later. Well I guess Austin’s better at directions than I am. People had already started to show up. The Henry’s who were throwing the party had a massively large house. It was three stories and it’s beautifully designed, interiorly and exteriorly. The pool was beautiful too. Austin parked the car and we both hopped out. Austin winked at me and grabbed my hand. We walked together, hand in hand up to the back where the party had begun to start.

“Hey Austin!”

“What’s up Kelly?”

“Hey Kelly!”

“What’s up Austin?”

“Hey do you guys want paint?”

Well we were known as the “it” couple in school. We’ve also been the longest dating couple at the school so a lot of people knew who we were; I guess you can say that we’re popular. Personally I don’t think so. I rolled dup my shirt up, a little past my bellybutton.  Austin and I looked at each other and shrugged and made our way over the paint. There was a ton of bright neon colored paint. I dipped my hand, palm first into the bright orange. I grabbed Austin’s arm and it left a handprint. He didn’t notice at all. I giggled and said,

“Austin you have such delicate detail to do that to arm by yourself.”

Austin looked at me quizzically and then to his arm, noticing the hand print and said,

“That calls for revenge, but not now, you’ll just have to wait for it I guess.”

Austin shrugs his shoulders. My boyfriend, everyone, never the straightforward type. God bless his heart. I laugh again and say,

“Alright.”

I draw random lines down my arm and place a few handprints on my stomach. Austin was currently being mobbed by his guy friends on the football team. Alex and Sam had pinned him down and put streaks of orange on his face and streaks of yellow on his arms. He looked like just came back from tribal ritual. I smile at his goofy friends who laugh in his face and run off. I shake my head; Austin walks over to me looking slightly upset.

“Aw the big bad Austin got ambushed?”

I said in a baby-voice.

“Well at least Kelly still likes me, where’s my girlfriend anyway?”

I raise my eyebrows as he looks completely serious though I know he’s only joking.

“Right here.”

I wrap my arms around his neck. He murmurs,

“Oh really? You certainly don’t look like my girlfriend. I guess you’ll just have to remind me.”

“Oh so you mean like this?”

I drop my arms to my side and lean up to kiss him as he leans down to kiss me. He gently grabs my chin and caresses my cheek with his fingers.

“PDA isn’t allowed Adams!”

Alex yells! Austin chuckles during the kiss and pulls away. His eyes sparkling when he says,

“I got you back.”

“Yeah sure.”

“You now have paint on your face, you’re welcome love.”

With that Austin runs off and tackles his friends. I look at my face in the glass, and sure enough there were two bright yellow streaks of paint on my cheek.  I laugh to myself at my crazy boyfriend, but I gotta love that kid.

I make my way over to my friends as soon as I see them pull up in their car. Jessica, the oldest and in my opinion, the prettiest was the maternal figure but in a fun way. Jess had extremely long jet black hair and had model figure with just the right amount of curves and skinniness. Jessica was mixed, her father was a light skinned Middle Eastern and her mother was black. She was extremely beautiful. Ella, the youngest of our group, had shoulder length dirty blonde hair and she was pretty too, she had large green eyes that sparkled constantly with excitement. Then there was me, in the group of three, I had light brown hair that reached past my bra-line. I had grey eyes and just a light sprinkle of freckles.

I hugged them each and said,

“Let’s get this party started!”
