Chapter 19

A New Beginning

Gracie's POV

"Ohh momma there is this huge garden in the backyard where we can plant flowers or vegetables like you always wanted." Sarah chirped happily

I only smiled and nodded as I have been doing for quiet a while now. Sarah is beyond excited about staying with Jason which is the opposite of what I felt. First off I'm going against what Ben told me to do and secondly I'll be in Jason's house which made me nervous.

After my talk with the McTern's I was checked out and given the green light to leave although Dr. Feller wanted me to stay a few more days. Jason had insisted for me to stay but I was too frightened of Ben coming to see me again. Now I was sitting fully clothed, Jackie brought me some clothes from my 'new wardrobe'. Luckily it wasn't fancy, just a pair of blue jeans and plain white blouse.

I don't like the idea of The McTern's doing so much for me. Especially since Jackie said Jason paid for everything. I owe him for so much I'd hate to keep bothering him with all of this.

"We can plant lilies, tulips and the pretty pink trees." Sarah continued

She was jumping on the bed beside me with a wide goofy grin that I've never seen. The realization sadden me, Sarah has never really had anything exciting happen for her. It made me feel like I let her down in some way.

A hand rested on my shoulder, I looked up at Jackie who stood above me with a supportive smile. As if telling me, you did your best.

"Ready to go?" Jason asked as he entered the room

Sarah responded by running and wrapping her small arms around his knees. Jason didn't mind, he was actually grinning as he picked her up.

Pushing myself off the bed I stood up swaying slightly. My ribs ached like I'd just run a marathon, there was a pounding in my head and my limbs felt like string cheese.

"Let me help you." Jackie said, she wrapped on arm around my waist

As I walked with Jackie's support I could feel Jason watching me. He said he'd take care of Ben's threats but I'm still worried.

"Where's Ms. Lucielle and Jack?" I asked noting that both weren't with us

"It's a surprise momma." Sarah giggled as she clung to Jason's neck happily

I cocked my head hoping Jason would explain but he simply shrugged with a teasing smile. What are they up to?

We stopped at the front desk for me to collect my medicine and officially sign out. I was relieved to get out of the hospital, I hated all those doctors touching me and wincing at my wounds.

"Okay Ms. Adler you are all set." the nurse said to me but her eyes were on Jason

"Thank you Evelyn." Jason said with a wink

The nurse went scarlet as she stumbled for words. I couldn't help but feel jealous of the woman behind the desk. What have they done? The question caused my shoulders to sag in disappointment.

He is not yours! A voice scowled angrily. That's right he's not.

"Hey Jackie why don't you guys go on a head I'll met you at the car." Jason said his voice suddenly held a seriousness

He gave Sarah over to Jackie who seemed as confused as me but did as she was told. I however had a bad feeling about this.

"Go on Gracie, I'll be there in a sec." Jason said as he gently pushed me towards the parking lot

I shook my head noticing the hardness his face had just taken. Something was wrong, I opened my mouth to ask what it was when I heard a voice that turned my blood cold.

"Well, well what do we have here?" Ben sneered

His voice was like a hand clutching my lungs. My breathing quickened as I turned in the direction of his voice and saw him a few feet away. There he was dressed casually in a red striped polo shirt and dark jeans with an evil smile plastered on his face.

Behind that smile was pure rage. Struggling to catch my breath I backed away without realizing it. Ben's lips curled upwards at my terrified reaction.

Jason's large ,warm hand caught mine as he stepped forward blocking me from Ben. This was why he told us to go on first.

"You have some nerve showing your face here." Jason ground out his facial expression hard as stone

"Whatever do you mean?" Ben said with fake puzzlement before he howled in laughter

My fingers tightened on Jason's as I peeked around his chest. Ben's beady eyes caught me watching him which stopped his laughter. My heart hammered in my chest as I pressed myself to Jason's back fearfully.

"So you decided to do this the hard way, huh?" Ben said as be nodded his round head "No problem, Sarah will be much more obedient than you."
