                             Chapter Seven- A Medical Catastrophe

“If you move this main wire a bit to the left,” Dr. Linnel said, prodding the main wire in Aleah's forehead with his bare finger, “you will uncover the power button.”

Aleah sucked in a deep breath. She tried to stay calm in the seat, though emotions were coursing through her wires.

Dr. Linnel’s spoke aloud:”Okay, Aleah, I am going to have to shut you down. I need you to give me your consent, okay?”

Aleah simply nodded her head, not trusting her voice.

“Alright, on the count of three…two…one.” At “one” Dr. Linnel gently pressed the dime-sized power button in Aleah’s forehead.

Aleah tightly grasped the armrests of the seat she sat it, splintering the wood. She twisted her head back but did not say a single sound. Squeezing her eyes closed, she felt her toes and legs go strangely numb, as if they were put under water. The numbness spiraled up her waist, around her chest, and down her arms. Exhaling, the numbness spread out to her head, and she completely powered down, sighing.

“She was easier than most. They usually freak out and start having spasms, but she was perfectly fine,” Dr. Linnel said, stepping back and studying his patient.

Calyssa’s view was finally unblocked by the Doctor, and she gazed upon Aleah. Aleah’s hands slowly slipped from their gripping position on the armrests, her head still lolled back. But, to Calyssa’s horror, Aleah’s eyes flipped open and were completely white. The pupil and lilac iris of her eyes were completely gone, just leaving two white orbs.

Calyssa’s eyes slowly rose from Aleah’s eyes, and stared at her forehead. The thin layer of removable skin- which included hair- on Uncertain’s scalps was peeled off of Aleah’s head, leaving her bald. Cracks and bends in Aleah’s forehead made Calyssa feel even worse for inflicting that pain upon Aleah when she kicked her in the head in their previous fight. She wouldn’t have done it if Aleah hadn’t attacked her first.

A tiny door was open on Aleah’s head and it letting everyone see what was in Aleah’s forehead. The three nurses and Dr. Linnel were used to seeing what was inside of an Uncertain, but Calyssa wasn’t used to seeing the robot functions of an Uncertain, unless it was during one of her disc attacks. The sight scared her.

As she stood from her mahogany chair, bare-foot with her shoes strewn across the carpet, Calyssa saw the inside of Aleah’s forehead.  It was completely made of red, blue, and black wires and broken plates jutted out. Oil coated the cracked plates thinly and Calyssa noticed that some of the wires were broken. If you looked farther than the top layer, and beyond the broken plates, you would see Aleah’s entire main wire system, along with the wheels and plates allowing Aleah to move. Calyssa walked forward silently, and stood besides the Uncertain Doctor.

“Well, since we only have a limited time, how ‘bout I work on Aleah, and my nurses will tell you the problems. Sound good?”
