“Whenever you need me, whenever you want me, you know you can call me because I’ll be there shortly.” I whisper as I hug her goodbye.
“But you’ll be so far away.” She cries into my shirt, her hair goes flying and some strands began to lash at my face from the sudden gush of wind that just broke out.
“It doesn’t matter if I’m near or far, I’ll come to see you.” I attempt to escape from her grip, but I fail miserably.
“But you’re my best friend!” She whines and digs her face deeper into my chest, but she probably did that to get warm since it was getting chilly.
“You have Bitchy and Nerd.” I joke, but only about calling her boyfriend Nerd, but Bitchy… she deserves the name.
“You’re so mean, its Gwendolyn and Ned!” She laughs and her grip loosens; I wiggle out of her arms and run for the airport doors.
“Ugh! Cautis! You better call me once you land!” Her shout reaches my ears and I just smile and scream farewell to her.
Turns out she took those words to heart since she called and left me voicemail later that month.
I pull up in front of her house and grab the bouquet of pink tulips from the passenger seat. I dash up the front steps of her porch and ring the doorbell. In a second, I’m met with a red headed girl with too much makeup. Ew it’s that bitch, I think as I glare at her.
“Ugh, he’s here!” Her squeaky voice shouts, I roll my eyes and just as she’s about to close the door, I push the door open and walk in. She glares at me and closes the door, but she rips the flowers from my hand and dashes past me as I go up the stairs, and then I hear a door slam.
Once I get to Rouge’s door, I turn the knob, but it won’t budge. “Stupid bitch locked it,” I hiss, “open the door! It’s me, Cautis!”
The door opens to Bitchy again and I grimace, what an ugly face she has, I think. “Nobody wants you here, so I suggest you leave.” I’m about to storm inside, but she slams the door on my face.
I hear yelling (mostly of protest) from the other side of the door, but soon the door opens to reveal a blonde girl with curly hair. Her eyes are filled with tears, but she breaks into a smile and hugs me. “I’ve missed you,” her tears seep through my t-shirt, “so much.” I rest my chin on top of her hair.
“I know,” I sigh, “I’ve missed you too.” I unlatch her arms from me and I wipe the tears from her blue eyes. “Are you okay? I got your voicemail.”
She gasps then begins to cry again. “Why are you crying?” I ask, but she shakes her head. I hear her cell phone ringing, it’s right next to Bitchy, but she doesn’t pick it up, instead she’s looking through her purse for something.
“I didn’t mean to leave that voicemail. I was sort of out of it yesterday.” She wipes her tears away with her sleeve. “And I’m sorry about Gwendolyn,” I instantly look over to Bitchy, who is doing her nails.
“I’m sorry you’re friends with her.” I whisper, but I end up getting a pretty finger from her. I walk into her room and there’s an array of shredded photos in a box, and when I look closely I see that each piece include her boyfriend Nerd. Now that I think of it, they’re one year anniversary was yesterday.
Rouge notices that I’m staring at the box and kicks it underneath the bed. “I was picking out some pictures,” the phone goes off again and it starts the tears, “for a scrapbook I was going to make.” She rubs her eyes.
“Oh Rouge!” Bitchy hops off the bed and hugs Rouge. I decide to join in too; I strap my arms around Rouge, Bitchy flinches but doesn’t move away.
“You deserve so much better!” Bitchy says and glares at me.
“I need to get a tissue.” Rouge began to squirm out of our grasp and went to the bathroom, which leaves me and Bitchy alone.
“He cheated on her with our friend.” Bitchy answered the question on my mind.
Rouge’s cell phone goes off again and I answer it. “Rouge! Thank goodness you answered. I’m so sorry baby! I love you and only you! I’m coming over please open the door. I miss yo-” I hang up immediately.
“He’s coming over.” I say and I drop the phone on the bed and head downstairs and towards the door.
I open the door and I see a figure walking across the driveway. The light skinned boy had shaggy brown hair was just above his glasses, without a doubt its Ned; I smile wide once I see him smiling, he’s still wearing braces. I storm out and swing my fist at his face, and I end up hitting his mouth hard enough to make him stumble over his feet and fall back.
