A Dream Sequence

When once I closed my eyes I saw,

Stretched before me forever:

A rich and beautiful map of green,

And blue, ripe with my own desire,

To explore and seek.

I flew farther in and on walking,

On either side of a sapphire river,

Saw dancing emerald trees,

And a copper sun became liquid,

Beyond the horizon.

I lay there happily for hours,

Neither time nor place did I need.

Instead as I lay on cotton grass,

The colors heightened and fell.

It could not last.

When waking I tried to catch,

Each detail of the memory.

But they ran through my fingers,

And I never could savor them again,

Like silver fumes
