Chapter 13

Adelia’s P.O.V.

I sigh contently at the light streaming through the window. I stretch and let out a yawn as I sit up. I don’t even care if my hair is a mess. I walk down the stairs, humming quietly.

I walk into the kitchen and see my mom standing by the stove, making pancakes.

“Mom! You’re back!” I tell her with a smile. I run towards her and give her a hug.

“Got back late last night. Now don’t be too loud, your brother fell asleep on the couch.” She tells me with a gentle smile.

“Pancakes smell good.” I tell her.

“Thank you. I’ve worked very hard on them.”

I laugh quietly.

“Why are you in such a good mood?” She asks. “It’s the shirt. Is it Michael’s?” She asks with a smirk.

My heart drops into the pit of my stomach.

“Oh no. It’s not Michael’s. All the color just drained from your face, I’m so sorry-”

“No, it’s okay.” I tell her. “You haven’t been around much, so you missed a lot of drama. I’ll fill you in later, but long story short, Michael and I aren’t on speaking terms. Ever. And I had a date with Luke last night.”

“Luke? Tall, blonde, lip ring?”

“Yep.” I tell her.

“So that’s his flannel?”

“Mhmm.”

“And I’m assuming he’s not in your room?”

“Mom!” I tell her. “Of course not!”

“Good! I just had to be safe!” She tells me with a laugh.

“Mum? Is that you?” Ashton asks, walking into the kitchen. The second he sees her, a grin spreads across his face and he runs to hug her. “I missed you!” He tells her.

“I missed you too.” She says quietly. “How’s my baby boy been doing?”

“Work is terrible. School still sucks. And everyone still thinks I’m dating Calum.”

“So, same as usual?” She asks with a grin.

“Yes, mum. Same as usual. How was your trip?”

“Very business-y. Hated it.” She sets the table and I notice there’s a lot of extra pancakes. She notices my gaze and smiles. “I assumed you were going to have friends over since they basically live here anyway.”

“They’ll be over soon.” Ashton says, rubbing his eyes. “Lia, is that Luke’s?”

“Yes. He didn’t have a jacket and I was cold.” I explain.

“What a gentleman. How was the date?” My mom asks, sitting down with a cup of coffee.

“It was great. It was a picnic and it was just the cutest thing. And it wasn’t a cheesy one in the park. It was on a roof of a building in the city. I absolutely loved it.”

“How romantic. A roof.” Ashton snorts.

“Ashton, don’t be a spoil sport just because your sister had a date and you didn’t.”

I take a drink of apple juice to refrain from laughing.

Ashton takes a deep breath. “Sorry mum.”
“It’s alright, dear. Now, go on Lia.”
“It was so amazing. I can’t even describe it. He was so funny and charming and-”
