Ch 37- Pestilence *end of pestilence*

'Hayden

She screamed her wail was long and painful. Lucas jumped up and tackled Lissa to the ground. Ayden was trying to tend to the girl on the floor, Caden was passed out and me? I just stood there trying to take in the chaos before me.

Lucas had pinned a thrashing Lissa to the ground, he was torturing her I could see by the vacant look in her eyes and the utterly terrifying scream that ripped through her body, her screaming mixed with the girls along with all the other raised voices clashed together and formed one grotesque orchestra of pain.

I finally came to my wits as I realised that if someone didn’t take control...hell we could all end up dying and with the world slowly ending...I still wanted to keep my family together and intact.

“STOP!” I yelled at the top of my voice and rushed to Lucas and pulled him off Lissa, I picked a still screaming Lissa and dragged her into my bathroom and locked her in, her tiny fists began banging on the door. Lucas looked at me like I had grown two heads.

“What did you do that for?!” he yelled at me, pushing me backwards. I gave him a glare and pushed him away from me. I went to my cupboard and pulled out a first aid kit and tossed it to Ayden who was trying to calm the screaming girl down. Lucas was still yelling at me but I swiftly ignored him and went to get Lissa.

I opened the bathroom door carefully and jumped back when Lissa sprung up, flailing her arms about. I wrapped her in my arms and shushed her.

“Lissa why did you stab that girl?” I asked her, kneeling down on the floor with Lissa wrapped tightly in my arms.

“She-she, she’s Amorfia! One of the riders! She is evil! Evil!” she yelled and tried to wiggled around me to get to this girl. Lucas stopped and looked down at Lissa, his face became dark and a foreboding look crossed his eyes.

“She isn’t Amorfia, Amorfia is dead,” he said quietly turning away to help the girl. Lissa stopped and looked at Lucas like he was mad.

“Dead?!” she said incredulously, and got up and gave Lucas a hard look, “Dead?! The riders can’t die! Why do you think they have been alive for so long? The only think that can kill a rider is another rider! Amorfia is not dead! If you thought you killed her, think again she is alive!” Lissa ended off with a hysterical giggle at the end, before walking off to the bathroom muttering phrases in another language and locking herself in.

Lucas stood motionless and stared at the door, I walked past my stoic brother and towards the girl.

“What’s her name?” I asked Ayden, he looked at me briefly his brows knotted together, before continuing stitching up the girls wound.

“Arianna,” he muttered before carrying on, the girl was biting down on her thumb trying to keep her screams down, tears fell from her eyes onto her pale porcelain face. I felt sorry for her, I looked behind me and noticed Lucas was no longer standing where I had left him, I began to worry. Where did he go to?

I couldn’t carry on worrying over my little brother because I heard moans coming from Caden I rushed over to him and gently tried to lift him up without damaging his wings, his eyes fluttered open and for the briefest of seconds I saw pain flash through them.  He moaned again and I lifted him up a bit more so his body didn’t rest on his damaged wings.

I clicked my fingers in front of his face, my one hand still holding him steady.

“Caden!” I said, snapping them more. I was such a wreck; I didn’t know how I was going to tell everyone here about what had happened to Cole. “Caden!” I said again and finally his eyes opened and stayed open. He stared at me trying to come to terms with what he was seeing, his eyes flickered towards the girl and he lurched forward yelling her name, but withdrew quickly a strangled cry escaped his lips.

“Pass me the first aid box Ayden,” I said frantically to my brother, grabbing it from him. I started to slowly mend Caden’s wings, he winced and cried out in pain each time I touched them but for the most part he was relatively quiet and took the pain like a soldier. I wondered what happened to all of them and why I was kept out of this whole mix. I sighed and continued working, the death of my brother still fresh in my mind, I was also worrying about my eldest brother Dandre and where he would be if he wasn’t dead already.
