I reached the edge of the forest, all I had to do was run to the mill and climb up the wall into the celling, and jump back in bed, without been caught. The bodies of the guards that once lay on the ground had gone, leaving me a clear path to the ivory wall. I ran, I could feel my heart beating inside my chest. I grabbed the strong ivory vines and began to climb. My hands hurt as I griped harder; I made my feet climb and shoved them in the gabs of the leaves. Finally I reached the escape whole and clambered in I jumped out the dusty celling in to my dorm, everyone was still asleep, so I slipped the dorms warm jumper of and jumped in to bed.
The room was silent, I could hear myself panting, and feel my eyes closing. The moment I had drifted to sleep the master was waking me back up again, that was the down side to the glowing forest, I don’t get any sleep. I dragged myself out of bed, took of my night clothes and replaced them with my torn working ones.
My bare feet stiffened as I walked towards the dining hall, the floor was cold and concrete making toes go numb. I snatched my bowl and spoon of the shelf and staggered over to the nun, dishing up our mush. I then slumped down in my hard wooden chair and shoveled my food in (if anyone took their time in eating, some other hungry kid would come and steal it).
After breakfast, we went straight to work in the mill; I noticed many of the older and taller kids where gone, leaving manly small, young, innocent children. Then it hit me, I was tall for my age and wasn’t to scrawny, I would be sold off in the next batch of what I call bread. I was one of the oldest and tallest children left in the mill, and this job required small little hands and bodies. Even with the children signed till they were 21 the mush we get fed isn’t meant to make us grow tall or strong, they just want to keep us small enough to fit inside the machines.
My mind keeps wondering where will I go if I’m sold? Another work house? An orphanage? The mines? A farm? Or even a loving free family (I hope)? The day draws to an end and I can feel the black circles form around my eyes. Then the masters enter.
A strong silence fills the room, as one of the Masters begins reading names of those who must descend to the dining hall.
