It was a freezing Wednesday morning, like every other Wednesday morning for the past few months. Forcing myself to get out of bed was hell. After rubbing my eyes, I pushed my half-sleeping body out of bed (nearly falling over in the process – woops!).
“CLAIRE ARE YOU UP YET?” Mum screaming at me in the morning wasn’t exactly something I needed. Especially not in my current miserable state.
“YES!” I bellowed down to her. Why did school have to start so early in the morning? I mean half 8 in the morning, are they trying to kill us?! Traipsing over to my wardrobe, I pulled out my hideous school uniform. It consisted of a blue blouse, a burgundy blazer, burgundy pleated skirt, burgundy tights and black flat shoes. If you haven’t noticed yet, my school loves the colour burgundy. However, I ‘surprisingly’ hate it. The only reason I enjoy going to school anymore is because of Liam. So you’re wondering who Liam is? He’s the golden boy with a huge heart, gorgeous brown eyes and he’s just… Perfect. Well for me anyway. We’ve been friends for a long time now but I often find myself day-dreaming about future dates we’d go on, to the beach, park or wherever. Each time the day-dreams would be pure bliss and amazing. I missed him from the moment he left the end of my drive on the evening, till I saw him again the next day. If I could be with him every second of the day, I would.
After all this time of thinking, I’d finally managed to get myself ready. It had taken twenty minutes, which was much slower than usual. I checked my phone for the time and nearly had a panic attack when I saw I only had ten minutes to get to school. Why did I have to think about him while trying to get ready? Damn it. I chucked all my books, my phone and iPod into my bag and ran down the stairs. I did it at a speed I never thought I could in the morning. I practically fell through the kitchen door.
“Morning mum, any chance of a lift to school? Pretty please, I’ll be late otherwise… And you know how much I love you!” I pleaded with her. She raised an eyebrow before chuckling lightly.
“Yeah ok, grab some of the toast before we go!” She held out the plate with buttered toast on it. Rushing over, I grabbed a couple of slices before speeding back out the door. Mum was closely following behind me and laughed at me as I pretty much ran to the car. “I don’t understand, you run to the car even though you can’t go anywhere unless I drive it. So where was the point in running?” She smiled at me, in a motherly way.
“Mum, please just hurry up! Not meaning to sound horrible but you know I have somewhere I need to be… Like right now.” I tried to sound light-hearted but my tone sounded all too serious. My mum rolled her eyes, she did care about my education she just wasn’t strict about it. In my words, she’s got a very laid-back mothering technique which could be weird to other mum’s but I love her for being different!
Eventually we pulled up to the school gates and I said my brief goodbyes to mum before leaping out of the car. I’d made it with three minutes to go. I breathed a sigh of relief and plodded into the yard. With my head down, I wandered over to where Liam was standing with the rest of our friends. The rest of our friends are; Louis (the funny one!), Harry (the flirt!), Zayn (The Vain one), Niall (The cute Irish one), Hannah (Zayn’s Girlfriend) and Jenna (My best friend). I lifted my head up as I approached our group and smiled as I closed the space between us.
“Morning, Darling!” Liam spoke with open arms waiting to embrace me. He usually called me ‘Darling’ and I admit I liked it. He smelt fantastic and he was so warm. I was reluctant to let go when the time came. The hug was short-lived but it still gave me the same feelings all of his other ones had. A pounding heart, reeling mind and a rising temperature. That sounds so cheesy, I know, but it happens every time. Even just looking into his beautiful brown orbs makes my heart melt and his adorable smile makes my knees turn to jelly. It was crazy! Jenna was furiously hitting my arm and all the others were laughing.
“OUCH! What the heck was that for?” I rubbed the part of my arm she’d just hit ridiculously hard.
“Well, for a start I’ve been trying to get your attention for the past two minutes or so… And also, you looked kind of weird standing there with dozy look on your face! Let me show you what it was like…” Jenna started pulling the stupidest face I’d ever seen and instantly, I burst out laughing.
