Corvan's POV

He could practically hear her thinking 'Why is he sitting with me? Why did he choose to ride with me?' He could almost see the gears turning in her head.

She was finding nothing to say, How odd. He thought, But not unwanted. He took the offered chance to watch her as she stared out the window at the quickly changing scenery. Her pretty hair. He sighed. Her shivering arms. Wait. SHIVERING? She was cold? But she had yet to notice it. It would seem odd to her if he knew she was shivering before she did. Also, he knew that she knew that he could make fire. It was only a matter of time before she asked for warmth. God, but it is cold! Ah! Now she realized how cold she was and began sneaking looks at him, looking to see if he was cold. He wouldn't let her know how the fact that she was cold effected him.

She giggled! She looks so unbelievably adorable when she laughs. "You look happy seeing snow," He murmured. Now shock crossed her face and flickered in her eyes. Her mouth opened slightly as she gasped. He wanted to lean over, pull her flush against him, and kiss her luscious lips. He answered her next statement mechanically, not even hearing her next question. He would kiss her and stroke her hair, and ti e would kiss him back with the same feeling that he would show her...

He surfaced from his day dream just in time to hear, "...First time in cold weather?" He told her of the climate in Arland and a couple of weather jokes later she was telling him how nice it was to sit in front of a fire.

He couldn't help but smile as he realized what he could do to make her happy. "Well then." Concentrating, he formed a small fireball hand held it out to her. Immediately her eyes fixated on the source of the warmth. She doesn't know how pretty she looks in red, as the scarlet light danced over her creamy skin.

"Are you going to hold your hand out like that the rest of the way?" she asked.

Automatically he said "Of course not," as the fire was absorbed back into him so that he could give it the leverage it needed to float. He did not feel the cold that Valeriana suddenly seemed to feel. Don't think about the difficulty of this spell, Corvan. Think of how happy she will be, that will be enough reward. Nothing to it. Nothing for it either unless I want her to freeze. One of the more difficult spells he had mastered was floating something and setting it on fire. The product of this spell was called an Aureole. Creating one was infinitely more difficult than simply setting something on fire as he had to support a ball of pure flame and at the same time making sure that the air it floated on did not catch alight. But once it was in the air, he could probably keep if floating for quite a while without burning everything down around their ears. Probably is not definitely.

He wanted to watch her squirm and thought of all the ways she could ask for the fire to come back. But let the fire go thinking, I am no better than the little boy who throws a rock at his beloved's head so she will notice him! How many times I have wanted to hold her, never let her go, keep her warm and happy for eternity, but she would never in a million years let me! How I wish she would though! The ball formed once again and as he set it into the air pocket he had made, Valeriana's face immediately lit up an interesting mix of happiness, gratitude, surprise, and warmth. Is she happy with me for being helpful or just surprised that I would spontaneously do anything for her? If she asked for more, I would do whatever she asked. The ribbing I would get from the Twelve would never end though! And they all pale in comparison to her smile.

ON THE WAY BACK (ALSO IN THE CARRIAGES)

This time as he climbed back in Valeriana's carriage, the first thing he did was make her a fireball. When she realized he was waiting for her in the carriage she smiled as she hopped in. But before she could sit, he wrapped his long, strong arms around her waist and pulled her over next to him. He felt Valeriana stiffen when he grabbed her, but smiled when she relaxed into his side a few minutes later as the convoy started moving. He started, wondering how she hadn't spoken yet, "I know we haven't been the best of friends lately, but I would like to fix that. Valeriana, if you could, can you forgive me for all the things I have said and done to you? May we start again? Please?"

Dumbfounded, she could only nod. "Oh thank goodness! I have waited so long for this," and with that he lifted her from her seat onto his lap and kissed her, long and sweet. To his utter surprise she started kissing him back with vigor. When they pulled away, both were out of breath and panting slightly.

No more daydreaming about kissing her succulent lips and stroking her hair... NO! Stop! But how she would react, that would be hilarious, she would probably try to hit me with something, knowing her she would try to grab the

He realized that he was laughing. He chuckled loudly. Triumphantly. Giddily. He laughed until Valeriana inexpertly shut him up with a kiss. He only let her go when she needed to gasp in new air. And promptly pulled her back to him, not to let go for the duration of the carriage ride.

Tamara's POV

"What in Valemnia is that?" I turned in shock to Charles.

I would swear up and down that it was Corvan laughing, but Corvan never laughs! Charles echoed my thought. "If I didn't know better, I'd say Corvan was laughing. But he hasn't laughed in such a long time that it can't be him!"

"He laughed last when he was with Valeriana, they are in the same carriage. I wonder what silly thing she has done this time?" I giggled, imagining the silly things the first and fifth tankers had done to date.

We were both rather startled by the abrupt ending to the glorious laughter coming from the carriage behind us. What in the name of Valemnia is going on back there?
