I sat on the couch watching Shika play Shogi and Go against himself. He always had interesting expressions, many of them hilarious. The thing about Shika playing against himself is that it was near impossible for him to complete a game. He always thought so far ahead that he never even gets to the end of it because the moves are all planned out.
“Why are you staring at me?” he asks dryly, a look of annoyance on his face, probably from a difficult move.
“I’m not staring at you” I lied lightly, “I’m thinking of names for her.”
“Like what?” he said, completely seeing through my lie.
“Oh, some that crossed my mind were Kai or Rekka,” I admitted truthfully.
“Really?” He says without interest.
“Well, what can you think of?” I asked, annoyed that he wasn’t taking it seriously.
“I don’t know. Reika maybe.” he answered evasively.
“Hmmm… I don’t know about that” I mused aloud.
He huffs with exasperation at being shot down. Apparently he was done with his game too since he began to put away the pieces. A thought struck me.
“Hey Shika,” I said softly. “I have an idea.”
“Uh oh, what?” he asked with mock dread.
“I want her to be named after my mother, Kaida.”
“Are you sure?” he warned cautiously “it’s your choice.”
“I’m sure, it’s a beautiful name.”
