How Trees Sing

How Trees Sing

not without help, wind

shushes leaves into a chorus of rattling

and wood against wood transforms

clattering limbs into percussion sticks

and on placid days,

a slow ballad of growth in the creaking,

stretching of limbs humming into sonorous sunlight,

a churning  roots into muffled soil,

an anthem of life and home
