Chapter Twelve: Fake-Out Stake-Out

                My eyes surveyed the room. It was old and slightly falling apart. Something that I wasn’t use to. The room was small. There was a couch, old and worn out of course, and there was an old table in the corner of the room a couple of feet away.

                In front of me was a boy dressed in a white toga. He had olive toned skin and light hazel eyes. His hair was dark like mine with curls. This boy had to be about Melissa’s age or younger. I didn’t recognize him but I had to know him from somewhere. He just looked so familiar.

                “Did you have a great time at the marketplace?” I asked him.

                “Yes I did mother.”

                “Where is Cyril?”

                The boy lowered his head. “I couldn’t find him.

                Shock engulfed me. “What do you mean you couldn’t find him? He went with you to the market Caesarian.”

                “But he was at the house and I couldn’t find him anywhere.”

                I huffed and paced back and forth. Where was Cyril? Why was I looking for him? He obviously had some type of connection to me and finding him was the utmost importance.

                Before I could go on to look for him, my eyes flickered over to the doorway as a man walked in. He cleared his throat and smiled at me. Although he smiled, there was nothing else friendly about him. Dread engulfed me as I recognized his face. The man also had on a toga but his was made out of a purple fabric with a gold sash. Even though he was heavily dressed, I could make out the shape of a dagger tied to his waist.

                “Look what I found.” The man said as he walked closer to me with half a dozen men behind him.

                “What do you want?” I whispered.

                “Is that anyway to talk to your old son-in-law?” He smiled and revealed two rows of white teeth.

                “What do you want?”

                He paused. His icy blue eyes stared pass me and then floated to the boy next to me. Almost out of instinct, I pushed him behind me.

                “You think that I am going to kill him, don’t you?” He laughed.

                “Yes I do Gaius.”

                Gaius frowned. “Deo.”
