To Kill A Mockingjay

As night fell, I was the only one awake in the cave. Daniel and Everett had gone hunting in the forest in search of food and Hope lay in my arms. The medicine has not had the effect that I had hoped. Although her breathing has improved, she still appears to be in pain. According to Ebony, it will take some time, but I hoped that six hours would have been enough. Hearing footsteps outside, I carefully rested Hope down and stood up. Picking up a dagger, I shook Ebony awake and made my way towards the entrance of the cave. Something or someone was out there.

"What did you hear?" Whispered Ebony.

"Footsteps." I replied.

Suddenly, I was taken out by Sycamore. My dagger fell from my hand as I fell and landed with a clatter on the floor of the cave. As I hit the ground, I quickly scrambled towards it but was stopped in my path. Sycamore kicked me in the stomach winding me. I wheezed and coughed.

Ebony was being held up against the wall by Regina with a knife poised to her neck. She squirmed trying to free herself from her grip.

"By time I'm done with you, you'll be begging for me to kill you." Smiled Regina with an evil grin.

I desperately tried to grab my dagger but it was just out of my reach.

Sycamore kicked the dagger away.

"Nice try." He smirked. "Did you really think that you lot could beat us?" Sycamore asked. "You are nothing compared to us! You're just like ants, annoying and easily exterminable." He took a dagger from his pocket. "This will only hurt a little."

I closed my eyes ready to die.

"Ahhh!"

I didn't feel anything. Opening my eyes, Sycamore collapsed to the floor dead in front of me with an arrow in his back and Regina quickly fled.

The canon fired.

Ebony eyes widened as she got her breath back.

There sat Hope armed with a bow and arrow.

"What did I miss?" She asked.
