Living in the Underworld

Ok so I’ve kind of given up on my idea of the other story I was writing but I’m going to try harder with this one.

“Are you sure about this? What if she did see your face! ” I tried to tell her but she wouldn’t listen. She never does I don’t know why I try reasoning with her really.

“Don’t worry Em she’ll be fine when she comes round, plus I had a mask on don’t worry.” My sister Caddy can be very reckless sometimes, even when we’re on the job.

She always insists on doing the work herself and putting me as lookout but really we’re supposed to take turns.

“So what did you get?” She always brings more than any other mission worker.

“Well I took everything that wasn’t already open from the fridge, raided one of the cabinets and made sure I got lots of squash this time because I know our Sector is running out!”

“You never disappoint! But you did knock that poor woman out!!”

“What else was I supposed to do I ran straight into her and she started yelling at me so I panicked grabbed her incredibly heavy lamp and bopped her over the head”

“You really are unbelievable sometimes!”

“Quick we need to go! Hurry up Emma I don’t know how long she’ll be out!” One minute shes next to me the next she's not, I start to run to catch up with her.

We’re almost there when something hits the ground next to me, it throws me off balance and the ground comes rushing to meet me. What the….

“Emma, run!” I look up to see her face, it’s panic stricken and full of terror.

I’m dazed but I get up and do as she says I can’t seem to run in a straight line but I keep going.

As soon as I get to her she gives me a massive hug then grabs me and forcefully pushes me through the door.

I turn to ask her why she just did that but she’s not behind me she isn’t even by the door.

I pop my head out and I see her running in the other direction. What is she doing?!

“Caddy what the hell are you doing come back before someone sees us!” she doesn’t seem to hear but if she does she’s determined to ignore me!

“Go Em, don’t worry it’s ok I’ll be fine,” I look at her completely confused what does she mean? “I promise you’ll see me soon!”

“You know it’s against the rules to stay above for longer than 2 hours, we only have 10 minutes left until lock down you won’t be able to come through any door for a whole week. There’s no way you can survive that long. They’ll see you have no mark!” She looks at me with a somewhat sad expression on her face.

“I don’t want you to get involved in this, look what just happened, that was meant for me not you. Don’t ask questions… just go. See you when I see you.” She smiled but it was vague and gone almost as soon as it appeared.

“See you when I see you….” I say it half-heartedly Caddy can hear it in my voice she’s wearing a pained expression on her face, like when she lied to Annie when we left….

“No! I won’t see you soon will I?!?!” I was desperate my eyes were filling up and my throat was going all dry “Tell me the truth, please.” Caddy turned and started to walk away mini bombs were flying all around her.

She dodged them expertly I have no idea how she manages to do that.

The door starts to close slowly obstructing my view the gap's getting smaller, the last thing I saw of my sister, Caddy Green, was her beautiful long blonde hair flowing out behind her as she gracefully ran into the distance.

That is the Image that will stay in my mind forever…..
