“So that’s when we’ll kidnap Kenneth, and replace dad in his spot and mom won’t know until she sees him standing at the end of the aisle and by that time she’ll realize how much she really does want to marry him. Boom, happily ever after” Robby pitched his idea to all of us. It wasn’t bad, although it was unrealistic so it wouldn’t work.First of all we couldn’t kidnap a full grown men and second of all we couldn’t rely on some sort of miracle that when my mom saw my dad she’d fall in love wit him again. He already sang her a song and they already laughed at old memories and she still wished to marry Kenneth. Why what was so great about him? I wondered maybe that was the key. They always did say keep your friends close but your enemies closer, so maybe it was time that I got to know Kenneth a little more. If I could find the weakness of him, maybe I could figure out how to get my mom to fall out of love with him.

“Not that it isn’t a good idea Robby, but I think I thought of a better one”I explained my thoughts. “And with Kenneth out of the way, that can give mom and dad more time to reconnect. If distract Kenneth you guys can try to surround the house with things that will bring up old memories. Make my mom realize that Harry is still the same guy she fell in love with.” I continued on. “We’ll do it tonight, I’ll ask Kenneth to take me to town, and in that time make sure everyone else is out of the house but someone stay close to make sure everything is going okay” I added. This plan was bullet proof how could my mom deny a candle light dinner, when her fiance is no where to be seen.  Everyone agreed to it, most of the children would ask their parents to go somewhere so my mom and dad would have the house to themselves, while Robby and Shaiyena  would stay back and make sure my dad didn’t chicken out. Noah would be in town with the truck so I could get a ride back with him. I just needed Kenneth to agree to take me to town.

I waited till everyone had left just before dark  and my mom was in the shower. Hopefully this would give my dad enough time to set up the house. Kenneth was sitting on the couch flipping through different channels. “Hey” I tried to get his attention.

“I was wondering if you could drive me to town to pick up my paycheque”

“Can’t someone else?” He barely moved his eyes away from the tv

“Everyone else is gone, and my mom is in the shower. It will only take a couple minutes, besides Ed gives my family free drinks and I guess you’re going to be family now” I barely managed to let the last pert exit my mouth. He’d never be family, he’d never replace my dad. “I bet you could use a beer”

“Scotch is more my preference ” he corrected, and got up for the couch. Wearing his sweater vest. He wasn’t meant for my mom, sure my mom enjoyed looking classy but from looking at pictures of my mom and my dad when they were younger, I knew my dad didn’t mind wearing a suit but I also knew that he liked to have fun too. Kenneth didn’t have any fun in him at all. That’s what my mom needed; fun.

“Are you excited about the wedding?” I asked.

“I’m excited to have your mother as my wife”he nodded. “I’m not one for celebrations, I find they are a waste of time. I suggested getting married at the courthouse, but she insisted we invited family and friends. I’d do anything for her” he added.
