The Chosen One
Recap
“Thank god,” He whispered to me in my mind. I stared at him and concentrated. “Are you going to kill Balthazar?” I asked silently in my mind. Surprisingly, Dragnox replied. So he’s not the only one who can speak in people’s minds huh? I grinned at that thought. Dragnox stared at me, fire in his eyes. His eyes glinted, but he did not reply. My smile vanished instantly.

Chapter 6:
Mysterious girl
Qlash trudged back into the house, his feet dragging. Dragnox stayed out in the backyard with his brothers. Qlash caught sight of a dark figure on the sofa and his eyes widened. Jeremy! Qlash raced to the sofa.
“Jeremy! I’m sorry, I didn’t come sooner, are you alright?” Qlash stammered, his heart pounding. Jeremy coughed. “Qlash?” he croaked weakly. Qlash nodded and motioned for him to wait. He dashed into the kitchen and poured some water into a cup. Then he offered it to Jeremy. He smiled gratefully, then gulped it down thirstily.
“I’m okay. That army- did you manage-” Jeremy broke off and coughed, “To kill them?” Qlash shook his head and Jeremy’s eyes widened. “I mean, the dragons are Dragnox’s brothers, and I cast a spell to, uh, they were controlled, and I-I uh,” Qlash stuttered, blushing lightly. Jeremy raised a hand and nodded in understanding.
Qlash sat down, not knowing what to do. Talk about awkward. He soon heard the soft snores of Jeremy and his even breathing, and he knew he must have fallen asleep. Wait. Qlash gasped, his eyes widening. Breathing? He can hear Jeremy's breathing? He focused- and there it was. The steady thud of his heartbeat. Qlash raced outside to inform Dragnox about his excellent hearing.
However, all the dragons were gone. All except for Dragnox. “Where are your brothers?” Qlash asked. Dragnox shook his head forlornly. He sighed. “They are angry with me,” he admitted. “For what?” Qlash exclaimed, surprised. Dragnox scratched his head and grinned at Qlash sheepishly. Qlash raised an eyebrow. “Um. I didn’t tell you my real name,” he confessed. Qlash gasped.
“What? Why not?” he asked, disappointed. Qlash felt a sharp pang in his heart. Dragnox sighed again. “It was important to be kept a secret. My brothers knew that you are the prophesied one, and they wanted me to trust you. If someone else knew my name, they could try to trick me and force me to do things. Do you promise not to tell anyone, not even Jeremy?” Dragnox stammered out. Qlash nodded immediately. “Cross my heart!” He grinned. Dragnox whispered softly In his mind.
“Koronia.”
Qlash gasped suddenly. Power surged through him and he was forced to stand. He felt as if an electric current had just passed through him. “What the…” he yelped. Koronia nodded. “That’s what happens when you know my real name. don’t say it out loud; just call me Dragnox, okay?” Koronia added. Qlash nodded uncertainly, not used to the overwhelming feel of power in his body.
“I need to take a walk,” he told Koronia, and staggered away without another word. He strolled along the perimeter of the front yard, pondering over what Koronia had told him. He felt his heart clench.
Pss…
The rustling of the bushes behind him caught his attention. Qlash froze. “Who’s there?” he asked loudly, his staff raised in front of him for protection, even though he only knew two spells. Which were not very useful, in this case. Qlash’s jaw clenched. He had waited for a long time and was starting to get agitated. “Come out now!” he ordered sharply. He heard a soft whimper from the bushes. He stepped forward cautiously and parted the bushes.
A girl was hiding there, curled up into a fetal position. “No! no, no…” she moaned, burying her head in her hands. Her shoulders shook as she sobbed silently. Qlash immediately got down and hugged her. He felt her relax at his touched and he smirked. Then he realised what her was doing and sprang away from the girl. He watched her tense up again. Her blonde hair was caked with mud and so were her hands and legs. She was wearing a tattered and torn dress. Qlash hugged her again.
“Sorry,” she murmured apologetically. Qlash nodded silently. “What’s your name?” he blurted out. The girl hesitated. “Corya,” she whispered, and finally raised her head up at Qlash. A thought immediately invaded Qlash’s mind and he blurted out the words instinctively. “You’re so beautiful!” he commented and blushed. Corya blushed too. “Thank you,” she giggled shyly. She turned to him and their eyes met.
