                                                        Chapter 1

                                                            Text

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's where it all started honestly.

You could look at the title and never look at what I have to say.

My life started when I met the person who completed my life.

And my life ended because of a simple text...

We were best friends...me and her...

Our mothers were good friends so we met in such an early age.

She got my number one day, and even up to now, I still don't know how...

Our friendship lasted all throughout college, texting, chatting, there wouldn't be a day when I won't receive a text from her, and the same goes with her, receiving messages from me.

Years passed, I became a doctor, she became a lawyer...and I still don't have the guts to ask her out...

But today I'm willing to ask her a question that would possibly take only a single word for her to answer.

I'm gonna ask her to marry me.

Cheesy? For me, no. I love her; and that's all that matters for me.

I asked her to dinner one day and our night actually went well, small talk -- life, family, work and the weather...

I was about to pop her the question when her phone rang. She took the call, stood up, told me she had to go, and left.

I bet she even forgot to greet me this year. She never forgets to greet me early on my birthday, until now.

The next day came, it was officially my birthday...

It was raining quite heavily outside and then I remembered there was a storm.

I shrugged the thought of having a rainy birthday, and I checked my phone.

Not even a single text from her.

Usually my inbox should be full of copies of a single annoying text message wishing me a happy birthday -- and all of them are from her -- but I still open each one, even though I know it would all contain the same message as the next and last : HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I decided to take the first move and call her out to lunch despite the rain, and also, to get that second chance at proposing to her.

I jokingly asked for my present first, but she kept ignoring my protests for my present and kept asking me if I received her text.

I told her no, I haven't. And it was true. But she managed to call me a liar anyway.

What's so important about a text anyway?!?!

She cursed to re-send her text out to me more than a hundred times, proving that text was important to her.

I took that as a challenge in a joking way, but she took it seriously cussing her way out the restaurant.

She walked out, and I did too, but I never followed her.

My lunch break was over anyway. I had to go back to the hospital.

With this kind of weather, there are a lot of emergencies that take all of us doctors to team up and help out.

Usually, I'd be happy to help, but i just couldn't get our arguement out of my mind.

I was in my deep thoughts when a patient was rushed in by the emergency room.

The nurse said there was no one else available to treat her, so I reluctantly volunteered. She said that she was in a car accident, that her car lost control in the slipperry road, so the patient was nearly burned to the bones. Literally.

I did my work, but I wouldn't say I gave my best efforts, some part of me was just telling me something was wrong as I tried to revive this patient.
