Chapter Twenty Eight
Emily and Stacy kept forcing me to say "yes" to Stan.
We're actually getting closer, since I call him by his nickname.
The usual thing during lunch.
Quietly eating. Drake sitting beside Emily. Stan sitting beside me. Max sitting beside Stacy.
It's like a triple date.
But I still said "No" to Stan even if he asked me out for like 5 times already.
Everytime I have a free period and I sit alone near the coffee stall, Stan would come and make things a little less gloomy.
I thanked him everytime then he'll ask me out on a date.
I always say no. But the good thing is he understands.
When I say no, he would accept the fact.
Then he'll ask me again the next day.
But today, he didn't ask me.
I got worried because he might be crying by now.
I decided to go to Drake's room (it's also his free period) and ask for advises.
I almost knocked, but I heard Stan in there.
"Come on Drake. Please help me with your sister."
"Why would I?"
"Because I really like her. And she kept saying no. But I really do like her."
"But look what your best bro did." Drake sounded very stern.
"But I... I'd never do that..."
I felt my cheeks burning, and my stomach squirming.
"Just... Forget about it..." Stan is almost opening the door, but my brother said "Give me one good reason why I should help you."
"Because I finally took the courage to tell you. Did other suitors did this?"
I took advantage of their silence and walked in and out of the elevator to pretend I didn't listen to their conversation.
I am quite an eavesdropper.
I saw Stan left the room, and I gave him a faint smile.
He managed to give me a big smile. Then I entered Drake's room.
He looks troubled. I should probably tell him I heard everything.
"Drake. I heard what Stan said."
He looked at me with a wry smile.
"I just don't know what to do. I might fall for the wrong guy again and I might even ruin my love life, thrice."
Drake held my wrist, and said "Jo. He's really serious. I know he is, at first I didn't like him since he's acting so idiotic, but now I saw his true colors. He's actually a troubled guy struggling to find romance."
Just like me.
I fixed my stare on the floor, hiding my blushing face, pretending not to smile or something.
"I know you like him."
I stared at him, not knowing what to say.
"Sh-should I tell?" I stuttered.
Drake sheepishly nodded.
I guess this is the first time he agreed on a guy.
"Now I know what to do!"
I gave him a quick hug and ran outside.
Now going to Stan's room.
I knocked, but no answer.
"Aha! The garden!"
I went down, and into the garden.
As usual, it's peaceful.
I saw Stan sitting on a bench, with his head down.
"Stan?"
He looked up, and wryly smiled at me.
"Are you mad?"
He's not mad. He's just gloomy.
"No."
I sat beside him, and thought that I should tell him.
It's now or never.
"I heard what you told Drake."
He looked at me with worries written all over his face.
To stop him from being worried, I hugged him.
"Sorry if I was so dense! I know you really like me. I actually like you too. But I was afraid of falling again, I don't want to ruin my love life thrice, but I realized you're a totally different person. You're a much better person than Tom. And I believe you can bring me the happiness I needed."
A tear managed to escape from my right eye.
They say if the first tear came from the right eye, it means tears of joy.
I managed to release him, and he wiped my tear.
"So, will you go on a date with me?"
"Yes. I'd love to" Then I finally saw his big smile.
This is probably the best afternoon of my life.
***
A dinner date.
Stan and me, alone on a different table.
He treated me with dinner, I said declined, but he insisted.
The whole time, he kept smiling at me.
As usual, I would smile back.
He shared some of his secrets.
Like how strict his parents are, but mine is much stricter.
Suddenly, he asked "Want me to introduce you to my parents?"
