"Forgotten Hero"

TEASER

FADE IN:

1 INT. ACCESS TUNNELS

NOG and JAKE are crawling in the access tunnels. The tunnels are narrow; however there is plenty of room for the two of them. The tunnels, brightly lit, are an intricate network of passageways connecting the entire station. Nog appears to be leading Jake, heading in a particular direction. As the two of them make their way to their destination, Nog appears to be confident, while Jake who is following behind shows hesitation and begins to question Nog.

JAKE

I really don't think we should be around here, Chief O'Brien has officers running duties here regularly and we can get into pretty big trouble... especially if my dad finds out.

NOG (softly)

Shh... not so loud. Someone might hear us.

Jake quiets down a little as warned by Nog, they continue to crawl.

JAKE (whispering)

... if we're caught here, we're going to have a lot of explaining to do.

NOG

... do you want me to help or not?

JAKE

I suppose, but this wasn't what I had in mind. Besides, do you think you'll be able to access the personnel records. There's probably some kind of...

NOG

Jake... Shh... be quite...

Nog signals Jake to be quiet. As voices approach, they can see several people pass by outside the tunnels, in the corridor. Jake and Nog wait steadily until they appear to be alone once again, and continue crawling towards their destination.

JAKE (softly)

Are you listening to me, Nog? ... there's probably some kind of security override needed to...

NOG (interrupting)

No need to worry about that.

Nog takes out several isolinear rods from his pocket and shows them to Jake. Jake is obviously surprised by Nog's well prepared plan.

NOG (continuing)

I borrowed these from my uncle. I see him using them all the time.

JAKE

Do you know where we're going? These access tunnels all look pretty much the same.

NOG

Of course I do, it's just ahead...

(beat)

Level 5, section 2. This is it.

JAKE and NOG STOP near an access panel located on a side wall. Nog easily removes the panel, places it down near him and looks into the computer circuitry within the panel.

NOG (continuing)

You're going to have to give me a minute here.

Nog takes position in front of the open panel. He looks in, and tries to put the isolinear rods to use. Meanwhile, Jake continues to converse with him.

JAKE

So, what do you think about her?

(beat)

This is stupid, I don't even know what race she is. Maybe she's not even interested in humans. Or worse yet, what if she's not interested in me?

NOG

That's why we're going to find out more about her.

JAKE (thinking)

Maybe I ought to just speak to her face to face.

(beat)

How come it's taking so long?

NOG (working)

Just give me another minute here. Jake waits impatiently while Nog continues to work with the computer.

JAKE

Nog, there's something I haven't told you.

(beat)

My dad's taking me to a Starfleet conference in a couple of days, so you're going to have to be by yourself for a while.

NOG (eagerly)

Do you think there's a chance that I can come with you?

JAKE

Yeah, right. It was hard enough to convince him to take me.

Nog looks disappointed.

JAKE (continuing)

But I'll bring something back for you, I promise...

NOG

Alright... I think this should do it.

Nog does some finishing touches on the computer and suddenly it begins to emit sparks, scaring the two of them away from the panel. After a large flash of light, the environment in the access tunnels are dimmed to near darkness.

2   INT. ACCESS TUNNELS - PAST

JAKE and NOG are in the access tunnels, in near darkness. The two of them panic as they rush to find a way out of the access tunnels. Sounds of footsteps are approaching them, stirring even more fear in them.

NOG (stuttering)

Hu..Hurry Jake. I think I hear someone coming.

Nog pushes Jake to crawl through several tunnels and finally make their way towards an exit panel. Jake opens the panel and looks out, stunned. The sounds approaching become increasingly louder.

NOG

Quick, they're coming! Jake....

Jake looks at Nog curiously and Nog realizes that he sees something outside the exit. Nog crawls toward Jake to see what he has discovered.

NOG (anxiously)

Jake... what's the problem, let's go.

INT. PROMENADE - PAST

Jake and Nog are looking into the promenade from the access tunnels. They are above the promenade but they realize that the station has changed. It appears to be much darker and gloomier, full of Cardassian soldiers. They appear to be on the station, in the past, during the Cardassian occupation. Jake and Nog are shocked by their predicament.
