Watch and Listen

Chapter 2

Hot water rushed down my body taking with it dirt and sweat left over from practice. It was the same thing everyday. Practice, hang out with Carly, have a blast then back to my disater of a family. I was sick and tired of having to go back. My parents were divorced and my mom pretty much fell off the face of the planet after that happened. Now my dad's with my step mom whom I hate. She treats me like i'm this out of control teenager and ignores whatever I say. Carly is pretty much the only family I had and I needed to stick by her the best I could. I loved her. Whether she knew that or not. One of these days I'll tell her how I really feel just not today.

I washed the shampoo out of my hair and shaved. Once I was done i grabbed a towel and dried off. Carly's room was just down this little hallway past the door. I could hear music and her singing along. My favorite sound. I loved her voice and everything about her. I changed into fresh clothes and put on a little cologne to smell nice while around Carly. I packed my practice stuff into my bag then headed down the hall way. Once I got to her room she looked up and smiled. God I'd never get used to those.

"Back so soon?," She laughed

"Hey just couldn't keep a lady waiting," I said returning the smile

"Come on silly lets get that homework done so we can get on with our plans for the night," She said

Friday nights were always filled with walks along the beach,movies and ice cream also time alone with Carly. Sometimes I'd spend the night on the couch in her living room I always looked foward to those nights. I grabbed my books and pulled my chair up next to hers.

"Alright what homework do you have?" Carly asked willing to help

"Hmm not much just history, math and english," I said

"Haha alright all easy subjects," She said

We spent about twenty minutes working on my homework, laughing and belting the words to all our favorite songs.

"Carly, Jake, Dinner!" Called Carly's mom

"I'll race you downstairs," Said Carly challenging me

"Alright slow poke prepare to lose," I said teasing her

She took off like a rocket and I took my time letting her win.

"Look whos slow now," She said out of breath once we were both downstairs in the kitchen

"Alright you win," I said laughing

Dinner that night was simple but delicious. We had pasta with meat sauce and some bread. I gave all my extras to Carly who happily took them with a smile. After we were finished we put our dirty dishes in the sink and grabbed our coats. I checked the clock it was only around 9:00.

"Bye Mom thanks for dinner," Said Carly heading out the door.

"Bye Mrs.Freemon," I said waving a goodbye "I'll bring her back no later then midnight,"

We borded my truck and were on our way. Off into the dark mysterious night. The trees flew by as we drove past them as we headed towards the beach. Carly was looking out the window watching the senery go by. The window was open and her hair was flowing all around her head and in her face. I wish other people could she the real her like I could. We drove for another couple miles until we hit the beach. The waves were low and the seagulls were clam. The world around us seemed to be at a standstill waiting for our next move. Carly got out of the car and I ran and picked her up. 

"Hey put me down," She screamed

"Never," I yelled back

I ran down to the waters edge with her in my arms. I swung her as if i was going to throw her into the water. She screamed again and clung onto my neck. 

"Take me back to shore or at least put me down," She yelled taking off her flip flops and holding them in her hand

"I would never drop you and you know that," I said gently landing her on her feet in the water

I wrapped my arms around her and we stood there like that for a while just looking out over the horizon. 

"Guess what?," She said turning around and looking me in the face.

"What?" I asked raising an eyebrow 

"YOUR IT!" She reached down and splashed me in the face with water

She ran down the beach laughing and I chased after her unable to control my laugh as well. 

"GET YOUR BUTT BACK HER CARLS," I said getting tired

She hid behind a sand dune. I ran to the water, got a handful and ran upbehind her. A sneaky move on my behalf.

"Boo!," I yelled then pured the water down her back

"JAKE!," She screamed as the water ran down her back.

"What? I asked, "Its pay back," 

I fell onto my back on the sand and Carly fallowed me. She rested her head on my arm and we looked at the stars.  Spotting the Dig Dipper and O'Ryan's Belt. We spent the rest of our night like that talking and laughing while cuddled together in the sand. 

I wish moments like these could last forever...If only she knew I wanted to be more then just a friend. I could help her get over her fear. But I had a way I just needed a little help from someone special...
