Entry 3 12:30 a.m., August 4th
I just got back from shopping about an hour ago. We went to the mall and I bought a floral tank-top and a pack of neon headbands. Then we went to the movies. I dropped her off at her house then I came home and shot around the basketball in my driveway for about a half an hour. It didn’t wear me down but my adrenaline is not spiked. My sweatshirt was wet with sweat so I put it in the dirty clothes and now all I have on is a white tank-top and skinny jeans. I took out my laptop and am going to begin my research on insomniacs.
I didn’t fall asleep last night and I am not tired right now either. This isn’t the first time I stayed up all night this Summer, but it hasn’t happened in about two weeks. I didn’t get dizzy this time, every other time I stayed up all night I would get caught off balance while walking or miss some baskets while playing ball. Today I was able to walk without any feeling of falling over and my game was just fine, no problems.
I’ve got awesome news! While I was at the mall with Megan, we ran into Porter and Preston. They are twins that are in my grade, seventeen. I don’t really know Porter, but Preston and I are friends. Son anyway they asked us if we wanted to go to their party they are having on Friday. Their parents are going to Michigan to visit with some old college friends. Preston is on the basketball team, so I will know most of the people at the party. If Porter invited anyone then Megan may know some people. Porter is on the newspaper and so is Megan, she is obsessed with working on it, she also does yearbook but Porter doesn’t. Porter and Megan both have no athletic skill. Last year I would practice running with Megan so she could try out for track, sure she was a fast runner but she kept tripping. I don’t understand how Megan and I are so close, we are complete opposites. I like sports she likes reading, I like rap music she likes country, my favorite kind of food is Italian hers is Mexican. I guess the saying opposites attract is true.
Here is a random thought. I am going to write down everything I want in a guy:
Good at sports, I don’t mean someone who knows crap about sports but can play the game. Cute, of course. Funny. Maybe a little on the bad side.
My computer won’t stop going off. Who the hell is sending me an IM at Midnight?
It was Megan saying: “Friday, you need to come over here before the party to get ready, love ya!” I simply sent her a “<3” back.
Megan wasn’t the only one who IM’d me. The other person was Preston!

Whenever I saw the message was from him my insides went warm, I wanted to squeal like a little girl, but I stopped the scream before it escaped. He asked me if I was able to play basketball with him, I didn’t care how late it was I told him to come on over, we would play at my house. He showed up five minutes later in the car his parents bought him for his birthday. He looked so cute in his red basketball shorts and cut off high school baseball T-shirt. His brown hair always looked a little messy, god he put my stomach in knots. At first we were playing basketball as if we were in an actual game, but after half an hour we started to become more relaxed and playful. On the last play I had the ball and he was a breathing distance away from his face, his breathe smelled like licorice. He took the ball from me but instead of shooting he dropped the ball to his side and too my face in his hand. That part happened too fast I didn’t know what was going on. But when he started to lean into me I did the same. His lips were soft and smooth. At the beginning his mouth was only touching my top lip, but we were able to get in a more rhythmic kiss. It only lasted about fifteen, twenty seconds. My mom came outside in a silk robe, her bright red hair shone even with a few crummy street lights telling me to come inside. My cheeks turned red and I could feel my ears heating up like they always do when I am embarrassed. You should have seen Preston’s cheeks they made my mother’s red hair look gray in comparison. My mom didn’t say anything else only a simple smile and wave to Preston. He didn’t kiss me again but simply said he would see me Friday.
