Prank Phone Call = Love?

Dan started writing down a few questions on the board and drawing a graph when Brittany leaned in. “First Garrett and now Trevor? Why do you keep acting like a slut and making these boys believe that you want something from them? Trevor shouldn’t even be getting in trouble for any of this. It’s all your fault,” she said and quickly went back to looking at Dan.

I could feel the tears coming on. How could she say any of that? I didn’t lead anyone on. I made it very clear that I didn’t want anything from Trevor. She knows that very well, especially when it comes to Garrett. All we were doing was hanging out like normal friends do.

“Here, try these questions at home Brittany. Seems like this is a bit harder than you thought it was,” Dan said and handed her a piece of paper. “You could stay longer if you’d like, but your detention is officially over,” Dan said, which made Brittany get up quickly and leave the room.

“Are you ok?” Dan asked when he saw me. I nodded, but the movement made a tear leak out from my eyes. Dan went to where Brittany was sitting and sat down there. “Do you want to talk about it?” he asked me. I shook my head and took a deep breath.

“It’s nothing important. Brittany was just trying to annoy me again,” I said and looked back down at my desk. This desk has been getting a lot of attention from me today.

The next three weeks were basically the same. Brittany hadn’t gotten another detention thankfully so I had the chance to catch up with Math. I was getting a few notes in my locker that was without a doubt from Brittany, but I learned to ignore them. I was feeling a lot better and only had a few small bruises left. You could only see the scar from the stitches if you looked through my hair and felt around for it.

Today was the last day of exams for me. I had just finished my math exam with a smile on my face. I know I didn’t do well, but I got at least a 60%, which was good enough for me. I had plans with Ave and Garrett to watch a movie at the Cineplex near the school. We decided on watching a funny movie and would decide as soon as we got to the theater. I went to my locker to take my purse out when a piece of paper fell on the ground.

Don’t think that you’re going to win this case, Sky. I have a lot of people rooting against you in this. You wanted to play this game so you better be prepared

-       Your worst nightmare.

I crumpled up the note. This would be the seventh one I got in my locker since I got back to school. The handwriting seemed messier than the others, but I guess it was because Brittany wrote it in a rush before going into the exam.

“Let’s get our movie on,” Ave said and dragged me towards her car where Garrett was already waiting.

“How do you think you did?” I asked Avery. She smiled nervously at me. “I think I got perfect. I checked it over at least four times, but there’s always the chance that I made a stupid mistake or forgot to put something small down,” she said.

“I don’t think you made any mistakes, Ave. You’re just worrying yourself,” Garrett said. I looked at him surprised. He was already using Avery’s nickname? I smiled to myself. Garrett was such a good friend. It was fun having a normal guy friend for once. Especially one that got along with Avery without flirting in any way.

“Have anyone in mind for Valentines day?” I asked Garrett. He smirked at me before answering, “maybe, but you’ll only get to know if they accept,” he said. I gave him the puppy-dog face, but he just laughed at me.

“For the love of God, don’t ever do that again. It looks like you ate a sour gummy bear or something,” he laughed. I punched him in the arm, but he didn’t even flinch.

“Stupid jocks and their muscles,” I mumbled to myself, which got Garrett laughing even harder.
