Chapter 10

I awoke with a groan.

A little strip of light came in through my window and hit my eyes. I lay there for a few minutes, my mind blank, staring up at all the little dust particle's dancing around in the light. Then the memories of last night came back to me. It felt hazy, like I was remembering a dream not something that happened the night before.

I had left Ruby and July in the hospital, claiming that I was sick. Not that they noticed, they were too busy arguing with the nurse to even notice me.

At that thought, I started wondering where Mam stayed last night, she refused to stay at ours. She said that she doesn't need any help.

I sat up in the bed and gazed at the dark room.

I could sneak out, grab a coffee in Starbucks and hang around some shopping centers.
I thought to myself, this morning I was planning to avoid Ruby and Will.

I threw the covers off me and made a run to the bathroom, grabbing a towel in the process. I switched on the shower, quickly stripped and hopped in. Cringing at the freezing water, I cursed myself for not paying the heating bill.

Finishing my cold shower, I got dressed, tied my hair up in a bun and tried to put my make-up on. After discovering that I had ran out of foundation, I deiced to not bother with it at all.

Making sure I had money with me, I dashed out the door.

Well, I had to unlock it but I was hasty in my actions.

Once out of the flat I did a little dance in celebration.

"Uh, July?"

I twisted my foot to face him and gave a sheepish grin, scratching the back of my neck.

"Why are you...." Said Will trailing off. "I haven't got time for this!" And with that he stamped off into the flat.

"Well SOMEONE's in a bad mood!" I shouted to Will as he slammed the door.

I shoved my hands in my hoodie pockets and trailed off to the Red Rods.

The Red Rods is this amazing art statement beside the canal. These massive red rods stick in through the air and there's a little fountain beside it which (of course!) is triangular shaped. I like it  best at night, when the rods and the rims around the flower beds light up. I go there to think, to be alone. I look up at the theatre and it's sparkling lights and smile and think; This is the best place in Dublin.

But then of course you see some dodgy looking lads and speed away in case they steal your rent money, and you don't want to owe your landlord another months rent. Again.

When you hear the trickling fountain and sounds of the traffic you feel right at home...

I snapped my eyes open and took a look around and sighed, my breath looking like smoke in the frozen air. Suddenly realising I hadn't had any breakfast, I made my way to the nearest cafe to have a bite to eat and warm myself up.
