Body Image

I just had to take an ice bath. You ever taken one of those? Don't. Ever.

And then I come to find that my email is filled with girls that are pissed about some threads going on in clubs (which I don't visit, because I don't have time) and they think I'm an expert with eating disorders and I should go bitch everyone out and set them all straight.

And I know I'm bitchy in this book, but I don't just go bitch people out in my spare time. Sometimes I'm nice. But, while I'm shivering my ass off and being insanely annoyed that my life has come to this, how about I go ahead and talk about this.

Body Image

I'm so sick of hearing that big girls call skinny girls "sick" and "ugly" and "disturbing".

And I'm sick of hearing that skinny girls call big girls "gross" and "disgusting."

Can everyone just stop with the name calling?

Yes, everyone is allowed to have an opinion. But calling people names doesn't make you "revolutionary". Telling people they need to calm down because it's just an opinion doesn't make you the martyr.

Get over yourselves. Goddamn.

And I'm not going to even go look at this thread(s?) that have people outraged, because I don't care to immerse myself in people's self-righteousness.

But from what I'm told, people keep saying that "thigh gaps" are ugly, or disturbing or whatever.

And they say that they aren't calling the girls with thigh gaps ugly, they're calling the thigh gap itself ugly, so it's not actually mean (correct me if I'm wrong).

But how is saying "thigh gaps are disgusting" any different from saying "cellulite is disgusting"?

I'm sick of everyone trying to pretend to be a good guy for having an opinion that people need to be "real." "Real women look like this."

What the hell are you talking about? Get your shit straight. People are real. Being a certain size doesn't make someone more real than someone else.

How about we all just shut the fuck up about weight?

I'm sorry to have to phrase it that way, but damn. Some people cannot let this go and apparently 90% of the people here only speak in "fuck" language.

Big girls get picked on. Little girls get picked on.

And it's not only girls. We like to be somewhat conceited and think that men can't suffer from any kind of eating disorder or body image issues, but they can. Everyone gets picked on for something at some point in their life. It's inevitable. And everyone has opinions and they all suck and can be viewed as controversial. It's part of life.

But when we pretend that our opinions are the only ones that matter, then we're being an asshole. I don't care if you disagree with me. I care when you start purposely being offensive because "it's just an opinion" and "people need to stop being so sensitive". How about we all stop reverting to such childish strategies such as name calling to instill our opinions in the values of others.

Real men and women aren't determined by the size of their clothes. They are determined by their actions and reactions to others.

So, let's make this about books (because this is a rant book for rants about books, not conceited, self indulgent children). Stop putting weight in books.

How about we make the character proud of her grades, or her friends, or her special talents. How about we make her proud of her sense of humor, or her artistic talents, or her musicianship.

Or we could make her proud of her ability to quote every episode of her favorite show or her knack for interior design.

Hey, let's make a character that's quick witted, or athletic, or an amazing cook.

Let's focus on personality instead of appearance.

I don't care if she's beautiful. I don't care what size she is.

I care about what kind of person she is.

For once can we all agree that people matter? Not what they look like, but who they are?
