Only Human

They say there is no such thing as werewolves or vampires or magic. They also say there's no such thing as fairies and pixies and other mythical creatures. Myth. This is no myth. This is a story about a girl who has a gift. A gift to see the world in a new way. A world where werewolves and vampires, fairies and pixies, witches and magic, roam free among us in disguise..

Chapter One.xx

"Ugh, what are you doing sitting at MY table freak?" Mercades McMorphin asked. She was the popular girl. The Cheerleader. The Prom Queen. My ex best friend. Yeah. A popular, attractive girl like Mercades friends with me. She was about 5' 6 with long, straight-up dyed platinum blonde hair with ocean blue eyes and a set of perfect, pearly white teeth. She has a lean structure and her breast are the only curve on her body. Her wardrobe consist of low cut tees, skirts, dresses, high heels and all that preppy stuff. I on the other hand, am about 5'7 with an hourglass figure and have all the curves. I have long, dark brown hair with caremel highlights and grey eyes. My teeth are straight and white. Not so much pearly white like hers though. My wardrobe consists of t-shirts with band logos, tanktops, skinny jeans, and converse. But anyway..

It all started back in kindergarten when she was being bullied by some girl named Deneese Robison and I put a stop to it. We were all at the playground and Mercedes accidentally pushed Deneese. Mercedes said sorry but Deneese pushed Mercedes to the ground and kicked her in the leg. I saw it and ran to Mercedes and helped her up. Then Deneese pushed me. I fell hard on my butt. I got back up and gave her a death stare and before I knew it I was pounding her face in and ripping chunks of hair out of her skull. The teachers ripped us away from each other and sent us to the principal. I got suspended for 5 days while Deneese got a detention. The Monday I came back, Mercades was waiting for me inside the classroom beside the door with a purple box and a green bow on top. She gave it to me. I opened it up an inside was a silver heart necklace with "Best" engraved on it. I looked up at her and she pulled a chain from around her neck that was the same necklace as mine but "Friend" was engraved on hers. "Thank you for sticking up for me on the playground Annabella. " she said. " Your welcome." Mercades walked up to me an took my necklace. She turned me around and put it on me. " We are officially best friends! " she said, pulling me into a hug. I smiled and we skipped to our seats. That was how we first met. Now let's skip to middle school.

Middle school wasn't the best years of Mercades and I's life. We weren't exactly popular. We were in the "nerd" group. It's not like we wore high-waters, oversized bifocals that slid down your nose, and shirts with breast pockets that carried pens or pencils. We thought we were normal but other kids didn't because we never wore make-up or dyed our hair or wore dresses or skirts. Just t-shirts with band logos, denim jeans, and Nike brand shoes. We always did our homework and got straight A's on our report cards. Until the day I found out my parents were in a car crash. I was called down to the office were there was a cop and Principal Daniels. He told me what had happened. "A drunk driver ran a stop sign while your parents were driving down the road. The impact caused the car to roll over the rail and down a hill causing the car to leak gas then blow up." Principal Daniels said. I sat there while he continued to talk. My parents are dead. Tears started to form in my eyes and everything became blurry. One of the secretary's in the office brought me my book bag and a tissue. The cop came over to me and kneeled in front of me. "I'm going to take you to the police station with me. Your Aunt Lillian will be there waiting for you. " he said, standing up and walking to the door. I stood up and followed him to his car. When we arrived to the police station, Aunt Lilian was waiting for me by the door. She ran to me and hugged me tight. We both started crying. Aunt Lilian was the only family I had in the state so now she was my legal guardian.

Aunt Lillian lived in a big house all by herself in the country, far away from the city. She said it was quiet and calm unlike our noisy, reckless city. I thought it was boring. The only thing good about her house is that she had Internet and cable. Since it was Friday we went to my house and packed my belongings. I went into mom and dads room. I grabbed moms make up bag, books that she loved reading, and her favorite necklace. It was weird. I could of sworn mom was wearing her necklace when she dropped me off at school this morning. I went into my parents closet. They always told me to stay out but they can't exactly tell me anymore. I pushed clothes and shoes aside. At the bottom I saw a big brown chest with Annabella written across the top in a gold color. I opened it and put moms stuff inside. I told myself I would go through it later. When Lillian saw my pulling the chest down the stairs she helped me. We put it in the back of her car and went to her place. She showed me my room and helped me unpack everything. My room was huge! It had a king sized bed with black and red silky sheets. My walls were black with red trimmings and the carpet was a fuzzy black. I even had my own bathroom! The bathtub itself took up half the room. It could probably fit three people in it. I put my toiletries where they needed to be an went back to my room. Lillian Finished putting my clothes in the drawers. " You didn't have to do that, Lillian." I said. "Honey, you can just call me Lilly and I wanted to help. As you can see there isn't much to de here." she laughed. " Oh, by the way I got you a gift." she said, walking to my closet. She pulled out a laptop. "I hooked it up already so it's ready to use." she said, giving me the laptop. "Thank you so much!" I practically squealed. " I've always wanted one!" I ran up and hugged her. She smiled and walked out of the room closing the door behind her. I put the laptop on the desk beside my bed. She probably thinks this computer will get my parents death off my mind. I started to cry until I fell asleep. The next day Lilly called the school saying I would be home schooled. I didn't have a problem with it but I would miss Mercades. I sent her an email telling her what happened and she said she would be on her way because she had news of her own.
