I never thought my life could change so much over such a short amount of time. I would never regret what ive done over the past months nor would I regret what id become. I would always protect the ones I love, but what happens when the one you love the most isn't who you thought they would be, what if they didn't tell you the real story. I didn't have a real reason to be angry I didn't tell the full story either but that wasn't the point. I hated these creatures yet I loved them well what they where I didn't know this as I ran towards the creature from across the small opening in the forest, my blood pumping through my veins I was infuriated not one inch of fear entered my mined not for myself anyway the thing didn't see me coming but I knew it would soon. I bored toward the feral monster the thing I loathed the most in this world there was one thing I myself did not see coming, that certain thing turned my life upside down if I had paid more attention I would have picked up the signs wouldn't I, if I had of known this fight wouldn't have happened it would change my perspective on what the elders had told me were they wrong or have I just not been as careful or as observant as I should have been. but I couldn't change it now my life is what it is and I am what I am and must be for the rest of my life. I wouldn't regret this I couldn't regret this it would be wrong to but I had to protect the people of Cavendish it was my job the one purpose in my life but how could I when there was one key point I missed the thing I should have picked up but failed to.
Chapter one
We just bumped into each other
It was six am on a Sunday I got up out of my king single bed that had a embarrassing Purple cover on it which I had told my mother to get ride of but of course she didn't. she wouldn't Be awake yet she didn't start work till 10am at the local hospital where she worked as a nurse. It was only me and her that lived in our small two bedroom white cottage that had purple Window sills. we lived about 5mins out of Cavendish the small town with a population of 3000 but 5000 in winter because we live near mount Bisk, that had a good ski field according to my Friends I was never the one to ski or snow board for that matter I tried it once and ended up With my legs tangled up like a pretzel. Cavendish was a small town where every one knows every One it had a primary and high school I go to Cavendish high there is 700 kids at my School. as I got out of my bed I stretched and yawned I didn't have the best night sleep Ever. I walked over to my closet to get out my runners. I went for a run every Sunday If it's a nice day and today was perfect. after I got my runners out of my closet I put them Beside my bed and then I got out a pair of shorts a t-shirt and light sweater just in case It got cold it often did that. I put my clothes on my bed and walked over to my mirror I rubbed my eyes and walked towards the door then went into the bath room to have A shower. I needed to wake up enough so when I went for a run I wouldn't get run over or Something. I turned the shower on and got impatient so I didn't wait for it to heat up I just got in it was cold at first then got warm I washed my hair and shaved my legs no one Likes hairy legs when your in shorts well that's what my mother always said. after I washed My hair I hopped out of the shower grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my self I grabbed Another towel and wrapped it around my long black curly hair that needed to be cut it was Getting to long and summer started in 2 weeks. I walked back into my room almost tripping Over my shoes beside my bed and then got dressed I put my socks on and walked over to my Mirror to brush my hair and then I tied it up into a slick pony tail so it wouldn't get in my face While I was running. I put a small amount of make up on just under my eyes so if I bumped Into any one I knew I wouldn't look tired I haven't ran into any body lately but it was just in case. I grabbed my runners and my wet towels I would put them down stairs in the washing machine I tiptoed past my mothers room she was sleeping it was only me and her that lived in our house Because my sister Jessica moved in with her new boyfriend and my parents split up when I was Nine. my dad didn't move far he moved to the other side of town where his whole family had lived Before he bought a house with mum I walked slowly down the stairs trying not to make a sound I got to the last step without tripping I walked past the kitchen dropping my shoes by The door and put my wet towels in the washing machine put the lid down then walked back to The kitchen. again almost tripping over my shoes. I recovered from my minor slip up and walked over To the fridge and grabbed my breakfast that my mum had made when she got home last night it was small container with a note stuck to the top of it and it read ''I hope you have a great run now make sure you don't hurt your self or you'll be in big trouble Alexis lea Clarke ill see you When you get back from you run xoxo'' I hated it when she called me Alexis every one else called Me by my nickname lexy but my mum did it just to piss me off when I was angry I pulled the note off and opened the container it was fresh berries and yogurt. I couldn't help but love my mother when she did stuff like this I shut the fridge put the container on the table and grabbed a large spoon out of the draw and then sat down when I had finished my breakfast I put the container in the sink and went to brush my teeth when I was finished doing that I sat on the floor and put on my runners and id almost forgotten my iPod every time I went running I would listen to my favorite songs I finished tying my lasses and walked into the lounge where my iPod was sitting on the coffee table I picked it up and walked towards the door as I walked through the door I put in my head phones and hit the shuffle button then put my iPod in the pocket of my sweater then shut the door me I started jogging to the pathway and then headed into town the way I always ran on a Sunday I jogged past my little white escort that my dad had given me for my fifteenth birthday it probably only cost about $500 but that didn't matter I was just happy to get a car I kept jogging and after About 10mins of running I was in the town of Cavendish I kept going strait then I started thinking About my sixteenth birthday party my dad and his side of the family threw me last weekend I dint really know any one there just my friend Claire deans my dads family and her family have been Friends for about one hundred years the deans and my dads side of the family the alarcons have been family friends so it Was pretty much impossible for me and Claire not to be friends I started to think about the old legends Of arabon protectors as I ran past the book store that had all the history of our people at my birthday Party the older folk started telling us old legends of how our families have been able to stand the test of time but only one legend stuck with me one of the older men cleared his throat to get our attention Then he started to speak '' they were the most beautiful creatures ever to walk on this earth no one Knows exactly why they were so beautiful but I think it was to lure there enemy in so that they had A better chance to kill them if they were dazed by their looks all the protectors were small in size but still looked human with pixie like features, deep Red full lips and they would all be about 5.6ft if they were taller they would shrink if they were shorter They would grow also each protector eyes would change colour their would only ever be three or four Protectors living at one time because we've only ever need that many so we don't know how many could live and work together there were four colours the protectors eyes could be the distend leaders eyes would Be an ice green this represented power and leadership the next would be a silver blue the next in command, next is a golden brown this was the mediator the one who was always calm and if there was a fourth Protector the last to change her eyes would be a copper brown almost blacky red apart from their beauty They each had unique powers each power would work just fine by its self but when all the protectors Used theirs powers as a team they would be so much more powerful all of the Protectors had strength, speed, size shifting they could only get smaller than their human size, flight the had wings that were invisible to the human eye, heightened senses, they were immortal until they stopped using their powers for a long time and they could each manipulate one element this depended on their personality also each protector could get a special power but not every protector got these of course they could be power control, tracking, memory manipulation, force fields, power mimicry, mind control, mental projection, electric touch, accelerated healing, pheromone manipulation, precognition that's seeing the future through dreams and such, probability control, power sensing, sonic scream, psychic weapons and time manipulation and those are just the ones we know about we don't know how many different ability's there are. there is only one creature that can kill the protectors most call them shape shifters each shape shifter can only take on one animal to shape shift into they don't get to chose this animal when they get changed its purely what there personality is our protectors have fought off a lot of them over the decades'' he paused for a moment but then Casey claries little sister spoke ''what do you mean when they get changed are they not born that way'' the old man laughed ''they can change a human into a shape shifter the same way a vampire can but they don't do it to drink the humans blood its purely to create more of them vampires are also a danger to the protectors but shape shifters are much more power full'' I was still jogging I was just about to run past a drive way I looked To my left down the drive way to see if there were any cars coming and my heart slowed to an almost none Existent beat and as I saw a red Ute stop as fast as it could about two feet from me and I almost fell Over from the shock I just stood there with my mouth wide open and now I was hyperventilating I didn't Even notice that the car door was open and a tall boy stepped out of the car with a cell phone to his ear He was talking but I couldn't hear what he was saying then I heard ''miss um miss are you ok are you hurt'' The boy was now walking over to me his voice sounded worried my heart was racing now but was slowing I shut my mouth took a few deep breaths then looked up the boy was right in front of me now still talking in to His phone ''I think she's fine now she seems more alert'' he looked down at me ''are you ok do you want me to Take you to the hospital im on the phone to one of the nurses now'' I took another breath then spoke ''no no Im fine'' I took another deep breath ''I don't need to go to the hospital'' he just nodded he didn't look very old probably my age ''ok'' he said to me then started talking back in to his phone ''no she's fine I don't think she needs To come to the hospital'' he paused for a moment and looked at me and smiled I hadn't noticed before But he was really good looking tan skin brown eyes prefect white teeth and he must have been about 6.2ft At least he spoke again into his phone ''yes I can do that ok goodbye'' he shut his phone and closed The few steps left between us ''are you ok im so sorry I didn't see you, you came out of no where'' he only stood About 2 feet away from me with a worried expression on his face ''yea im fine and don't be sorry I should Have been watching where I was going'' I forced a smile ''it was still my fault I shouldn't have been going so Fast down the drive please what can I do to make it up to you'' he was still worried I didn't know what to say Then I heard some music and I realized one of my head phones was still in I pulled it out grabbed my iPod And turned it off I sighed ''im fine and you don't have to do any thing im not even hurt'' I smiled trying to make This guy feel better he looked down at his feet then looked back up at me ''well at least let me make sure You get some thing to eat'' he walked closer to me and held out his hand ''im James by the way and you'd be Doing me a favour because me and my family only just moved in and I don't really know any one'' I grabbed His hand and shook it once ''nice to meet you James my names Alexis and ive actually got to get home'' I Looked down at my watch ''ive been running for about an hour and a half and I need to get cleaned up but Maybe ill see you around'' I smiled ''yea sure but at least let me drop you off you cant possibly run back If it took you a hour and a half to get here'' I thought for second ''umm'' I said as I looked at my feet ''Its no problem really where abouts do you live'' I didn't really want to run all the way home so ''yea that would be Great'' he smiled ''hope in the truck and you can show me the stuff in town'' I smiled and he walked me over To the passenger side of the car and opened the door for me wow what a nice guy I got in his car and he shut The door behind me and walked around to the drivers side and got in his car was spotless it must have been New because it had that new car smell ''now what direction'' he said as he started the ignition ''um go left Onto the main road'' he pulled out of the drive way slowly this time and he turned onto the main road ''so Do you go to school here'' he asked me as he drove down the main road ''um yea Cavendish high what About you are you going to go to school here or out of town'' he thought for a second keeping an eye on the road the whole time ''um im not sure what school ill be going to yet'' he was about to say something else but I interrupted him ''um turn right up here and then keep going strait ill tell you when were at my house'' he just nodded and then we turned down my road we didn't talk for a while it was a bit awkward I just sat there and fidgeted with my hands ''so.......... Why did you move here'' he looked over to me and smiled I forced a smile back ''well my mother loves living in little towns she hates big city's and my dad can never say know to her so we moved here'' he laughed ''oyea um this is my house just up on the left the white cottage'' I smiled and pointed up ahead to my house he laughed and slowed down to turn in ''nice purple window sills'' he laughed again and I couldn't help but laugh as well ''yea its sad my mum loves purple'' he pulled in and cut the ignition ''thanks for the ride you really didn't have to'' he didn't answer he just got out of the car and then opened the door for me I hoped out and walked around him he shut the door behind me ''it was no problem now ill see around hopefully it won't be when I almost run you over ae'' I smiled and laughed ''yea sure ill cya around maybe at school if you decide to go'' I walked to my door and he got in his car and started his car as he pulled out of my driveway he smiled and waved I waved back then opened my front door it was 20 to 8 mum would be getting up in about half an hour so I went up stairs to have another shower and change my clothes after I had my second shower I got changed into some old sweats and a baggy t-shirt I went back down stairs to get a drink I was still a little bit in shock from my all most accident with jame's car as I walked down stairs I stopped half way turned and ran up the stairs again I went into my room and grabbed the sweater I had been wearing early this morning I patted the pockets ''oh great'' I said to my self ''what's great'' I jumped at the sound of my mothers voice ''I seem to have missed placed my iPod again'' but I knew exactly where it was I must have left it in James car now how the hell was I going to get it from him if he doesn't go to my school or if I don't see him around oh im so screwed ''im sure you'll find it'' my mother continued to walk past my door ''yea im sure I will'' I said trying to sound positive I wonder if he was going to be in town he said he wanted to have a look around I would tell my mum im going into town to see some friends or something like that and then drive around town to see I if I could find him but I would have to make it look like I wasn't trying to find him because then I would feel like a stalker so I put on some jean shorts and a fitted white shirt and waist coat but then I changed my top about a hundred times and ended up wearing a kind of dress top I grabbed a black kardie and slipped on some jandles and headed down stairs ''bye mum im going into town to see some friends I probably wont be back before you leave'' I almost yelled as I ran down the stairs ''ok Hun see you when I get back from work and drive safe'' good she brought that ''k I will'' I yelled over my shoulder as I walked through the door I walked another two steps and shut the door behind me I walked out to my car unlocked the door and got in my car I had no idea where to start looking but I think the shop is a good place to start then ill go to the drive way were we met I started my car checked my mirrors and my hair which was now hanging over my left shoulder and I headed towards town. I drove straight to the shop but couldn't see his car parked any where but I decided to go in any way I cut the ignition and grabbed my wallet if I did see him I was going to need a cover story for being there I got out of my car and locked it I walked into the shop and started my search in the first isle I walked down the isle pretending to look at the chips but I couldn't see him so headed towards the corner that went into the next isle I wasn't exactly watching where I was going and as I walked around the corner I tried to look behind me to check if he was there and then I hit some thing hard and fell on my backside and my legs flew into the air I looked up to see what id run into ''now we really have to stop bumping into each other this way one of us could end up getting hurt'' I smiled and he held out his hand to help me up I grab it ''yea I know'' I got to my feet and dusted my self off ''are you ok'' he looked at me and smiled ''yea im fine what about you having some one run into you like that must have given you a fright'' I laughed ''yea a little but it nothing I cant handle'' he laughed and I couldn't really think of any thing else to say but then I heard some one calling james name ''james, james where are you we've got to go where the hell are you'' I wondered who it was ''yea im coming just a sec ok ill meet you at the car'' he smiled at me ''ok don't be to long'' I heard from the distants it sounded like a female ''sorry about that it was just my sister being pushy'' he smiled and let out a slight chuckle ''that's ok it happens'' I smiled I didn't know how to ask if he had my ipod or not ''yea um ill see you around hopefully next time one of us wont get hurt'' he shook his head and smiled ''yea um'' I paused for a moment ''yea'' he said ''I think I dropped my ipod in your car but im not sure because I got home and couldn't find it'' I hope I didn't sound rude ''um im not sure my cars at home but when I get back ill have a look for you'' I smiled ''that would be great so I guess I better let you get back to what ever you were doing before I ran into you'' ''yea ill see you around'' I smiled and I blushed how embarrassing ''yea see you'' he turned to walk away ''bye'' he said with a slight joking tone to his voice I smiled I didn't really have a good reason to be here any more so I started to walk towards the exit and grabbed a packet of my favourite lollie's and then walked out to my car opened the door and chucked the bag of lollies on the seat I didn't really know what to do now I could go home but I would just end up doing some writing or drawing some thing like that but I heard one of my favourite songs playing and I almost hit the roof of my car I got that much of a fright it was my phone that was sitting on my set I picked up to see who had texted me it was angie one of my other friends we never really hung out a lot but we were still really good friends she was short with dark skin and jet black hair the text said ''haya you should come around to mine for a swim im a loner '' id been to her house a few times to go swimming and it was such a hot day so I thought it would be a good idea ''yea id love to ill just go home and get my togs ill be there in 15mins'' I texted her and started my car and drove home my phone went off when I was driving but because of the new law that came in I couldn't answer it while I was driving so when I pulled up to the kerb out side my house I cut the ignition and picked up my phone it was another message from angie ''Kay see you then'' I grabbed my wallet and phone and went inside mums car wasn't here so she must have gone in early because it was only 9.30am I got out of my car and shut the door I didn't bother locking it I wouldn't be long I walked over to the door and went in and strait up stairs I got to my room and went strait to my second draw to grab my two piece and board shorts I picked them up then went down stairs to get a towel and a drink bottle I got to the kitchen and there was a note on the table it would be from my mother telling me why she had to leave early I picked it up and it read ''sorry alexis the hospital called me in early some guy broke his leg after crashing on his motor bike but ill be home at 10pm ok ill see you tomorrow morning if your not up when I get home xoxo'' I put the note in the rubbish and filled up a drink bottle and then walked towards to the door and grabbing the house keys that were sitting on a small table beside the door I walked out the door locking it behind me I walked to my car and got in I drove to angies on the other side of town she lived in a big house her family is really rich I kept driving and I hadn't realized it before but angie lived on the next street from where I met james this morning now I think he might think I am stalking him I turned into angies drive and I was wrong angie didn't live on the next street over she lived beside james there must have been two drive ways because beside angies there was a big house that id seen lots of times when id come here before but never really took much notice of it I couldn't see the whole house because there were two big moving trucks in front of it but I did see james car parked out the front I parked in out side of angies house and got out of my car grabbing my phone, water bottle, towel and the bag of lollies I shut the door of my car no one would take my car here there are probably video cameras I let out a small chuckle and started walking to angies front door but I kept looking over to james house there was a lot going on I could see a lot of people I saw james but only for a second before he walked back inside then my phone went off I fumbled around with all my stuff then looked at the text it was from angie ''hay how far away are you when you get here just go strait around to the pool k'' I didn't bother texting back so I walked around to the pool and angie was sitting by the pool with her feet in the water she didn't see me come through the gate ''hay I just got your text I brought lollys'' I smiled and she looked at me when I started talking she was wearing over sized shades that were pink and purple and she put them on the top of her head and smiled ''oh good I thought you may not have got my text and im glad you brought lollys im having a craving for some'' she stood up and I walked over to her putting my stuff on a beach chair the kind you see in fancy hotels and I threw her the bag of lollys and she caught them just before they hit the ground and she laughed ''nice throw'' and we both laughed ''oh ha-ha hay whats going on next door some one moving in or some thing'' I said as I stripped down to my togs and put on my board shorts I new what was going on but I did want to know a little more ''um the Camden family I think they are moving in mum said there from England or some thing but I did catch a glance of a boy it must be mr and mrs Camden's son but man was he hot I would tap that any day ha-ha'' we couldn't help but laugh and she was right about that he was hot ''oh yea how old do you think he is'' I said as we both sat down by the pool and angie opened the lollys ''he looked about our age good I hope he comes to our school that would be awesome come on ill show you him we can probably see him over the fence'' she laughed and pulled my arm as she got up we walked over to her fence and she pecked over first ''oh my god you have to see this'' she looked at me and smiled I hoped up beside her and looked over the fence ''what am I looking at'' as I scanned the back of the house it had a amazing garden ''over there'' and she pointed and there was james with his top off lifting a big box ''wow'' I said in shock ''wow isn't the word id use but yea wow'' angie was grinning from ear to ear ''oh shit'' she ducked down and pulled me as well I didn't want to look away I looked at her ''what are you doing'' she gave me a mean look ''keep your voice down some blond chick just caught us staring oh my good I feel like such a dick'' we both smiled she was about to speak but I interpreted her ''shh listen so I can hear what they are saying'' she just nodded I could faintly hear what they were saying ''what is it joslin what are you staring at'' ''just before I seen two girls looking over the fence'' angie and I giggled a little bit ''so who cares they were probably just being nosey you know checking out the neighbours'' ''I don't think so james hay what took you so long in the shop today'' my face went bright red oh no ''oh that um I just bumped into some one'' I heard him laugh and I couldn't help but laugh my self of what had happened only an hour ago angie gave me a funny look as if to say what are you laughing at ''what do you mean some one you don't know any one so who was it'' the girl named joslin said ''it was just a friend none of your business any way'' I heard a loud laugh come from over the fence so me and angie looked over the fence to see who it was ''what are you to talking about shouldn't you be helping un pack not having a gossip'' another loud laugh came from a big tall guy with Blondie brown hair he must have been like 6.9ft or something what a tank he walked over to james and the joslin girl ''we weren't having a gossip brad, james was just telling me he met some one today but he wont say who'' the blond girl joslin was very pretty her hair was curly and sat just on her shoulders and she was tan with classes that framed her face the big tall guy brad laugh again ''oh well you better tell me james or ill have to make you'' brad walked over to james and grabbed him one arm around his neck and the other hand on jame's head and started to give him a knoggie ''owe brad stop it'' james said with a angry tone ''what are you gona do about it and not un till you tell me who you meet today'' james grabbed brads hand and pulled it away from his head and glared at him ''fine and you know what I can do'' brad gave him a smack on the shoulder and grinned ''so who was it'' james sighed and I pulled on angies arm for us to leave but she just glared at me I knew my face would go red once he started to tell brad and joslin who he meet and angie would know it was me ''well '' joslin said I hoped he wouldn't say my name ''it was just one of the locals that walked strait into me and that was it ok'' he looked embarrassed I know I was ''just one of the locals still you must have talked for a while because I sat in the car for like 20 minutes'' joslin said sounding a little annoyed ''just drop it ok why does it matter any way'' brad laughed and was just about to say some thing but then a tall blond woman who must have been about 20 or something walked into the garden she was very pretty she had the same coloured hair as joslin but hers was dead straight and was about waist length she walked over to brad and grabbed his hand ''come on leave james alone and I need some help moving my duchess'' she had the softest voices id ever heard and she pulled on his arm brad gave a smirk to james and then hugged this lady around the waist ''ok babe I wana talk to you later'' he turned his head and pointed to james ''yea what ever brad'' james said with a sour tone to his voice joslin turned to brad and the other girl as they walked to the house ''wait Katherine I need you to help me set up my room'' she ran over to them and ducked into the house james just stood there for a moment and then continued to unpack the box of lorn ornaments they were all different animals there was a hawk that he put on the left side of the garden a cheater beside it and then he walked to the other side of the garden caring another two ornaments and put them beside each other too it was a jaguar and a bear how weird he went back to the box and grabbed another two ornaments and put them in-between the four ornaments but not side by side he put what looked to be a minx closer to the bear and the jaguar and then put a wolf or possibly a dog closer to the hawk and the cheater I wonder why any one would have such a different range of animals together I suppose if those animals would be very strong all together but who knew angie pulled on my arm ''come on lets go for a swim'' I smiled and we walked over to the pool and we eased in ''man he was hot and wonder what local he meet it better not have been Sophia I would be pissed if she sunk her claws in first'' I smiled but if I was angie I wouldn't want Sophia to get in first ''yea I wonder who it was ae'' I tried to put on a thoughtful look I probably didn't fool any one but then angie had this massive grin on her face ''you know what we should do'' she was planning some thing ''what'' I asked I didn't know if I wanted to hear her plan ''we should go introduce our selves you know be a good neighbour and all hmmm'' my face went red and there was no way I was doing going over there then I would feel like a real stalker ''no we cant just go over there remember that blond caught us staring what if she said some thing then I would feel like such a dork'' my face went bright red and I added ''plus they are still un packing'' angie just smiled ''well take something over food or a plant or some thing'' I shook my head but I knew that some way some how angie would end up getting me to go with her she's very persuasive when she wants you to do some thing you don't want to do she got out of the pool and looked at me ''come on put your clothes on and come inside well go make something'' I sighed I knew there was no point fighting it so I got out of the pool and put on my clothes over my wet togs oh well we walked inside to the kitchen where angies extremely hot older brother Kyle who was making a sandwich with his top off all of angies friends had a crush on him he was tall with sandy blond hair and bright green eyes and a perfect face ''oh hay ang hay lexy I didn't even know you were here'' he said I couldn't even speak but thank good angie seen me struggling and spoke ''yea she got here before were just about to go meet the new neighbours and I wana take something over do you have any ideas'' she walked over to him ''um mum made a couple batches of cookies before she asked me to take them over and I was just about to if you two want to come to'' kyle smiled and me and my face went red ''yea we will lets go now'' ''Kay the cookies are in the oven mum put them in there to keep them warm'' I wasn't really listening to what he was saying I was just looking at kyle ''hay lexy can you get them out'' angie said as she through me a pair of oven gloves a little harder than need be I caught one but the other fell on the floor ''yea sure'' I said as I picked the glove off the floor after I got the cookies out of the oven angie put them on a plate ''come on lets go'' kyle said as he walked past me with a plate of cookies in his hand angie pulled on my arm and we all walked out the drive way and then towards the Camden's house we didn't even get to the door before a tall man with black curly short hair and a woman with hair like joslin's and Katherine's walked over to us ''hello um were just from next door'' kyle said as he pointed to his and angies house ''and we thought wed pop over and introduce our selves'' angie finished for him the man and women stood side by side both smiling ''well im damond and this is my wife Caroline were very pleased to meet you and your names are'' damond held out his hand to kyle and caroline held hers out to me ''im alexis'' I shook her hand ''nice to meet you alexis and you are'' she looked to kyle and angie ''im kyle and this is my sister angie'' he shook damonds hand ''nice to meet all of you'' I smiled ''um angie and kyles mother baked some cookies house towards us he was even bigger close up ''mm what smells so good'' he said rubbing his stomach caroline looked over to him as he walked over and stood beside her ''the neighbours have kindly made us some cookies'' she smiled at all of us ''this is brad by the way he is our oldest daughters fiancée'' she said as she handed him a cookie she must have known he wanted one ''this is kyle, angie and alexis'' damond said to brad as he bit the cookie brad swallowed and then held out his hand ''nice to meet you'' we all shook his hand and then Katherine and joslin joined our little gathering ''what are you guys doing'' joslin began to say but then seen the three of us standing there I hope she didn't recognise us ''oh'' Katherine said as she went to stand by brad and he hugged her joslin just stood beside her and smiled at me and angie oh no she caught us ''this is kyle, angie and alexis from next door they've kindly brought us some cookies'' as caroline said my name james walked out of the house and saw my face and smiled I gave him a look to try to say act like you don't know me I knew it didn't work because he still had a massive grin on his face ''hi'' was all I managed to come out with joslin saw the look on james face and I think she knew who he'd meet at the shop today she took a step closer to me and held out her hand ''im joslin this is Katherine and james'' I shook her hand she shook angies and kyles hand she held on to kyles hand for a bit longer than necessary ''nice to meet you joslin'' kyle said with a big smile on his face james stood there with a confused look on his face probably wondering why I didn't seem to know who he was poor guy I would have been confused too if I was him ''would you like to come inside'' caroline said and before I could say no kyle and angie said ''yes'' at the same time it was creepy caroline smiled and they all turned towards the house joslin walked beside kyle and they started talking caroline and damond started asking questions about town and school to angie james watched angie walk towards his mother and then came to walk beside me Katherine and brad walked together towards the house ''hi again you know if I didn't know any better id think you were stalking me'' he smiled as we walked towards the house just behind every one else ''it does seem that way doesn't it'' ''yea just a little so why did you act like you've never meet me before when I came over'' I smiled sheepishly ''well I didn't tell angie about the whole bumping in to each other thing I was going to but then I realized that you lived next door and well yea'' he let out a little chuckle ''oh yea don't worry I haven't told joslin or any thing either'' I smiled ''yea I know'' shit ''what do you mean you know'' now Ive put my self in a hole ''um well none of your family said any thing so I guessed'' I tried to laugh it off ''well I did tell caroline but it kind of just slipped out'' know I knew why she only shook my hand and gave me a very proud kind of smile ''oyea that would be why she gave me a big smile before'' I said as we walked through the door in to what seemed to be the lounge or dinning room I couldn't really tell there were a lot of boxes but we kept walking out towards back door and into the garden were we'd seen them before but know there was a big table and 10 chairs james looked down at me and whispered ''that would be right'' I smiled and we sat down at the massive table caroline came from behind us with a big tray of drinks and put it right in the middle of the table then she sat beside me and damond sat beside her leaving a gap between him and Katherine brad sat beside her then kyle beside him with joslin talking to kyle and then angie sat between james and joslin we all grabbed a drink and caroline kept smiling at me and I could see james giving her a glare out of the corner of my eye everyone was in there own little conversations joslin and kyle, Katherine and brad, damond and angie were talking about mt bisk ''so alexis what school do you go to'' caroline said to me in the kindest voice ''um I go to Cavendish high'' I smiled ''were thinking of sending james and joslin there is it a good school'' I took a sip of my drink before I answered ''oh it's a really good school for a small town kind of thing'' james let out a small chuckle ''so how are you liking Cavendish is it much different from where you last lived'' I said to interrupt james little giggle and I looked to caroline I knew why james told her about us meeting because she seemed so understanding and caring ''well the last place we lived was a lot colder in England you barely ever see the sun and here its so warm'' I let out a small giggle and I was about to say something but then Katherine started to talk caroline so I turned my self so I was fully facing james and he started talking ''so I might be going to your school after all oh I found your ipod by the way it was on the set of my car ill go get it'' I grabbed his arm in protest I looked to angie as I stood james stood beside me ''I just have to go get something out of my car ill be back in a minute'' she acted like she didn't hear my she just waved her hand caroline and joslin looked up at me and james as we stood there ''come on'' james said to me and we walked out the front door and walked slowly towards his car ''james can I talk to you a sec'' joslin said as she ran through the door and towards us ''what joslin'' james said to her as she stood with her back to me facing him she didn't say anything then she turned to me and smiled ''can I borrow james for a sec'' I tried not to sound rude ''sure ill go check my phone'' I looked at james and then turned to walk towards my car I only heard the start of their conversation ''what are you doing james'' joslin said quiet but harsh I walked very slow trying to catch their little talk ''its nothing were just friends joslin no big deal'' james said trying to calm her ''how much do you know about her james hm nothing absolutely nothing and you've already .........'' I walked to far away to hear what they were saying dam I really want to know what she meant I got to my car and my towel drink bottle and my phone were all on my set just were I left them when we came out to go to james house I opened the door chucked every thing on the other set apart from my phone I got in and sat down I checked my messages nothing great what was I going to do while james and joslin had their talk I sat there for about what seemed to be like half an hour but probably only like two minutes but then I heard a loud bang that made me hit the roof of my car again and my heart stopped I looked up to see what had hit my bonnet it was james standing infront of my car he must of slammed his hands down on the bonnet I took three deep breaths and my heart beat went back to a regular beat he must have seen the look on my face because the look on his went from happy and joking to worried he walked around to my door opened it then knelt down beside me he put his hand on my shoulder ''are you ok im sorry'' I smiled and laughed as I turned to face him he still looked worried ''are you going for a record or some thing'' I said trying not to laugh to much he looked at me confused ''what, what do you mean a record'' I patted his hand and pushed him out of the way so I could get out of the car ''that's the third time today you've managed to give me one hell of a fright'' at that point he relaxed and smiled ''oh that I think your just really easily scared apart from the first time that was understandable im sorry for that'' I shut my car door and hit him on the shoulder and wondered over to his car he followed beside me ''so what were you and joslin talking about'' I said trying to act casual ''well nothing she was just worried'' he laughed as we got to his truck ''about what'' I asked he didn't answer he opened the door reached over and grabbed my ipod he held it out to me as he shut the door I grabbed it ''thanks'' I said but then my phone went off in my hand my dad was calling me ''hold on I got to take this'' james just nodded as I answered my phone ''hello'' ''hay lex what time are you coming up'' I went to my fathers usually on a Sunday night for a roast ''what time is every one starting'' it was quiet for a moment ''um in about and hour so do you want to come over early'' I liked spending time with my dad ''yea sure ive just got to go home ive been swimming at angies so ill go home then come up ok'' I looked at james and smiled ''ok kid see you then love you'' ''yea love you too bye'' I closed my phone ''who was that'' james said as we walked toward the house ''my dad I go there every Sunday to have a roast with some of the other local families'' he nodded ''oyea cool do you have to go now'' I smiled and nodded we walked back into the house and out to the back lorn every one was still there ''I have to go now thank you guys so much for letting me hang out for a while it was very nice to meet you'' I smiled and then turned to angie ''ill see you at school tomorrow ok ive got all my stuff'' james looked at me ''ill walk you to your car'' I nodded joslin didn't look to happy with me and james being friends but oh well ''it was very nice to meet you alexis maybe well see you again another time perhaps'' caroline said as she got up and walked towards me ''yea that would be nice'' caroline gave me a warm smile but james tapped on my arm ''come on'' I looked at him and nodded ''Kay bye every one'' I waved as james led the way back towards the door I heard several good byes as we walked back into the house james didn't talk and it was getting awkward so ''ill cya around'' I said to him as we walked out the front door ''yea I think my mum is definitely sending joslin and I to Cavendish high so ill probably see you tomorrow at least ill know some people ae'' we got to my car and he opened the door for me I chucked my phone and my ipod on the seat ''thanks I had a good afternoon'' I said as my face went red oh great ''yea me too and im sorry about my mother I don't know why she acted that way'' I laughed ''she was just being nice and what about your sister and kyle ae he may be your new brother in law'' we both laughed ''yea I doubt it she's probably get board of him'' we laughed again ''ive got to go but'' I said as I sat in my car ''ill cya later alexis ok'' he smiled and shut my door I got my keys and started the car as I did that joslin and Katherine came out both not looking to happy what was with that I backed up and waved goodbye to them as I drove past they both waved and james did also then he joined them on the front steps I drove back to my house got changed left a note for mum then drove to my fathers on the way there I started to think about what families would be there the deans would be there they always were so id get to talk to Claire about what happened today I never really spend much time with Claire out of school apart from on Sundays she had some drama thing on there were a few other girls my age Gabriella was 16 she was always so nice then there was nessa was 15 she was nice but we never really talked much well she never talked well to me any way then there was Casey was 15 just she was claries little sister only by nine months she was a spoilt brat I didn't even bother trying to talk to her I turned down my fathers drive way and the deans car was already there good I pulled up beside their car I got out of my car grabbing my phone and my ipod and then locked my car I didn't see it before but Gabriellas car was parked just on the other side of the deans car and she was in it to she must have just gotten here she looked up as I dropped my keys on the ground and got out of her car and walked over to me ''do you need some help alexis'' she said with the softest voice she was very pretty with short thick black hair and golden brown eyes ''no im fine are you here by your self tonight'' I picked up my keys and stood up right she smiled ''yea I am my parents are working so'' I smiled she was like the one person you couldn't help but fell calm around ''oyea'' I said as we walked towards my fathers house ''I wonder what old legend well be hearing tonight ae'' I laughed I enjoyed the listening to the legends but that's all they were but Gabriella didn't laugh her family was really big on that sort of thing ops we walked out to were my dad and the deans family were out on the deck the night went really fast me Claire talked about her day she was usually a bit self absorbed in that way Gabriella didn't really talk much and what a surprise neither did nessa after we all had tea they told some more old legends that I didn't listen to I was really tired when they finished I got up and walked over to my dad who was by the fire warming up his hands ''hay kid did you have a good night'' he said as I came over to him ''yea but im real tired and ive got school tomorrow so im going to get going'' I smiled and he gave me a hug ''ok kid ill talk to you later ok'' I yawned ''yea sure'' I pulled away from my dad ''bye every one'' I said as I walked out to my car I heard a couple of ''cya lexy'' behind me I walked to my car drove home and when I got there I pretty much fell asleep when I hit the pillow I dreamt about the arabon protectors I dreamt about their powers but in my dream it seemed to be that I was one it was silly but the dream was so vivid.
